Hi,

When I have finished with adjustments in ACR and click open to go to Editor, what is the file format of the image that opens in Editor? Is there a file format assigned at that time?

I have read that you should do your editing on a tiff image, not a jpeg so do I need to Save As as soon as the image moves to Editor in order have a tiff to work on? And, if so, is it the tiff that then stays open on the screen?

Just a little confused.......LOL

Thanks, Robin

When you open it it doesn't have a file format and doesn't need to because you are still working with the image (and not a file) within the program. You do have a choice of 16 bit or 8 bit although 16 bit severely limits what you can do in Elements so 8 bit is usually better.

When it comes time to save you can either save as a psd or tiff if you want to preserve any layers and save in the best available quality should you want to work on it again later.

Tony,

Thank you very much for the quick reply. I should have added this question to my original post but is it the same if I move an image from LR into Editor?

Robin: No - Lightroom is a separate program and so has to be saved to an intermediate file before opening it in the Editor but it does this for you (and gives the option of tiff or psd, 8 bit or 16 bit and you also need to pick the color space)
