applying drop shadow to photo-PSE6 on a Mac

Hi- I am afraid I am going to make a pest of myself as I try out the trial version of PSE6!!! But some things are a bit different- right now I am trying to figure out how to apply a drop shadow to a couple of pictures that I have on a paper. In PSE4, I just selected the shadow and there it was. I can't seem to see the shadow at all under these 2 photos! What am I doing wrong? Such a simple thing and I am stumped. Maybe I am too tired..... Well, thanks for the help, Judy

Oh, it seems like with PSE6 you have to drag the shadow onto the photo....... ah. Judy

You can still double click on a drop shadow to apply it, or highlight it and click on 'apply'. Maybe you chose a low drop shadow that wasn't showing up because of the background? You can tell if the drop shadow (or any other layer style) has been applied if you see a little blue fx in the layers palette.

Thanks for those tips! So far I like the new version. I am creating my first digi page with it and will see how all the different parts of it work for me. I do like the Bridge though- it doesn't crash like the one in PSE4!!! Very nice. Judy

Hi Judy ...

This confused me when I swtiched from PSE4 to PSE6 ... PSE4 you simply clicked on the layer style and it applied.

PSE6 you need to double click .. :)

Thanks! I will. One question I have is if I decide to upgrade, are there "things" I need to do to prepare for the upgrade? I vaguely remember something about going from PSE4 to PSE6 and there being issues with some folders lost, brushes misplaced or something like that. And when I upgrade, is it something that I can do over the Internet or do I have to order a CD/DVD? I notice that when I open PSE6, there are spaces for a license key so I am thinking it's something that I can do over the Internet..... Anyway, any tips or tricks up your sleeve that you have or cautions regarding the upgrade and what you miss about PSE4........ whatever, just let me know, Judy

You may need to download the Bridge update .. just check out the Adobe updates section for Macs :)
