Hi there,

I am using Photoshop Elements 4 and Photoshop CS.

I am doing some freelance work for my local paper. They advise me that there is a way to embed the caption info for the photograph into the file. (which would save me writing it into a separate word document) How do you do it?

Thanks

File>File Info and just type it into the description field under Caption. That puts iit in the IPTC metadata that is stored in the file. There are lots of other fields you can enter info into too. IPTC stands for the International Press Telecommunications Council which is why your local paper likes it. It's a way of storing all the info about the picture in the picture file.

Thanks Tony,
I had been thinking along these lines for a while but had not found it on my own.

Three Things though,

1. when accessed the printing seems chopped off at the bottom, is it something to do with the settings as it makes it a bit difficult to read?

2. Can I use this to put in public domain usage stipulation (Copyright/Not) or is this a legal copyright provision only?

3. What method do I use to make this info available/visible with images added to my gallery, other forums etc?

Sorry for butting in but it was agood opportunity.

Not sure about why you are seeing it chopped off. I don't recall seeing that although I rarely use it. The Copyright drop down does have Public Domain (as well as Copyright or Unknown) as an option so you could use that if you want. As far as it being visible - it isn't unless someone goes looking in the metadata and some forums/galleries I believe strip out the metadata so it would be gone. Also if you use Save for Web that strips out the metadata.

If you are sensitive about copyright then the only guaranteed way of making it visible is to actually write it on the image itself.

Must be my system clipping things short, and no I am not sensitive about copyright, just read in some creative commons discussions that it was a good thing to claim authorship and disuade (if posibble) people making buckets of cash from my work (If I get good enough) without acknowledging that work.

Just like most of you guys do, and as yet I don't know how to write directly on the image, nor can I think why I would, my rubbish might spoil something nice.

Again thanks for the help I'm sure that I will find much to query, please be patient.

Ron
