Does any one know if the new search text box supports searching captions or only just keywords? I looked at the video, but it looked like it only supported keywords.

According to this review

it will search the caption text.

Thanks MazG, a good find on the Internet. Its one of the features that I have been looking for in Elements.

Hi Sinclair-

Yes, you can search by words in the caption as well as tags and albums. Additionally, you can also search by file name, shot date, and camera model.

As for the video, I was limited on how long it could be, so it was pretty impossible to cover everything there. The goal was just to introduce that new feature.

Hope that helps, and sorry for the confusion.

Do you know if this search function will be impacted by stacks? 6.0 had issues with stacks when it came to tags and albums - e.g. marking all pics in a stack with the album tag, even if you only want one, and returning all pics in a stack during a search, even if they don't have the tag in question.

Thanks,

Rich

Hi Rich-

I did a couple of quick tests, and it appears that the behavior in 6.0 that you describe also occurs in the current build of version 7. I applied an album tag to one photo that was located in a stack, and all the images in the stack got that tag. The new Text Search included the entire stack in the search, not just the individual photo to which the tag was originally applied.

Bummer...

My memory from the discussions about this last fall on the Adobe forums was that Adobe customer support said that this was a "feature" working as designed, not a "bug". I know that at least a couple of people filed suggestions with Adobe to change it. Looks like those suggestions went into the bit bucket. I agree that it's an unfortunate design.

Thanks John. I agree, I saw the same comments.

The question was answered about albums but I wonder about tags. If you search for a tag do you get all pics in the stack, some with the red circle or only the properly tagged pics?

I am using 6 and it drives me nuts. If 7 doesn't fix it, I may have to get rid of stacks. I love them, but sifting through 500 pics to find the two that don't have the red circle is horrendous.

My work around was to write the tags to the metadata, then use picasa to search. What a pain.

THanks again,

Rich

Red circle, I'm afraid. I added a tag to two images in a stack, ran a text search for the tag, and it returned the entire stack. Images w/o the tag had the red circle, just like in 6.

The news just keeps getting better, eh? Sorry...:(
