I am trying to follow the instructions at PET for loading LAYER STYLES. It's for a much older version than I have, so I suspect that's why I can't find the file I need. What I'm asking is, ...............>Photoshop Elements 5>Presets>Styles the place I want to load them? When I open that, I find a bunch of .asl files, but don't see all that are in my Layers Style when working in the Editor.
Thanks. I'm finally getting brave about adding styles, and want to make sure I don't muck it up like I did when I first started adding brushes! :o

As I search, I find that everyone says I need to find the file in this path:
C: Documents and Settings>All Users>Application Data>Adobe>Photoshop Elements>5.0>Photo Creations>Special Effects>Photo Effects
Problem is, I don't see anything past "5.0" In other words, I don't find a "Photo Creations" file in the list. Am I missing something?

That's not it, Judy. That is set as it should be (to show hidden files).
This is really puzzling.

okay, here's a screen shot of my files. There's no "Photo Creations" but as you can see, I have layer styles under "Patterns."

Hi Shar ...
Here are the instruction for installing styles in PSE5 ...
Installing Layer Styles PSE5. First make sure that the "Show hidden folders and files" option is turned on in Windows. Then create a Shortcut on the desk top to:
C: Documents and Settings>All Users>Application Data>Adobe>Photoshop Elements>5.0>Photo Creations>Special Effects>Layer Styles
To install a Layer Style just create a new folder (if you need to), pop the .asl file (or files) in it and then drop the folder on the shortcut ... restart Elements and the layer style then shows up in Special Effects>Layer Styles
CARE ... Vista is C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\5.0\Photo Creations\Special Effects\Layer Styles
So you should be able to find Photo Creations in there ...

Wendy, as you can see from my screen shot, I don't have a Photo Creations/Special Effect/Layer Styles option! (I'm using XP, BTW, and PSE 5).
My Layer Styles seem to be filed under Patterns.
I don't know how to create a shortcut on my desktop anyway. I feel like I've got a basic big problem here.

Okay everyone. I have to fess up. Trish, over at Scrapper's Guide solved my problem. If I may quote her: "You are not in C:/Documents and Settings/", you are in "C:/Program Files/...'
I am sooooooooo embarrassed. I blew right past the first part of the file thread because all I could see was the "Photoshop Elements 5," and thought I needed to be in the same place I go when installing brushes.
I've decided that public humiliation is a good thing from time to time. Helps others to not feel as dopey. I will now pose for my 20 lashes with the wet noodle, then get on to installing all those wonderful Layer Styles.
so embarrassing..... :o:o:o:o

Glad you have it sorted out. I was getting ready to send you a screen shot I have saved as to where I put those LS thingys.
(and, to be honest....all my extra , new found etc. ones I place into, added layer styles.) It holds my confusion level to a minimum.
If...you ever need it, let me know.

Shar, you must be one of THOSE people......the ones who like to read the end of the book first! LOL! Don't worry about it. Your "humiliation" has been enlightening to me, too. Now I won't make that mistake when I try to add styles......hope I know what they do when I get them. LOL! Haven't used 'styles" yet.....I don't think.
