I would like to know the simplest way to censor bleep a single word or words in Elements 4. The audio is attached to the video. Thanks!

mikek,

I have PrEl2 - but I imagine the concept would hold in the later version.

Advance the CTI to the point just before where the offensive word begins and set a Key Frame. Advance the CTI one frame and set another Key Frame. Lower the volume all the way. Advance the CTI to the end of the word, set a Key Frame. Advance the CTI one frame, set another Key Frame, and return the volume to normal.

This will give you a quiet moment instead of a beep, but it will work to remove the offending utterance.

Mike and Byron,

Just some thoughts. That keyframing way is one way, but I suspect that the 3rd keyframe in that series will have to be set manually, instead of the keyframing being done automatically as occurred with the change of volume as in the case of the keyframe 1 to 2 and 3 to 4 after setting the initial keyframe 1. Check it out to make sure I have those keyframes numbered so that my demo corresponds to your suggestion.

Another way might be:
1. Clip Menu/Unlink Audio and Video
2. Use Split Clip to cut out offensive section. Right click the cut section, select Clear.
3. Then either leave area silent (blank) or download a free censor beep.wav to insert in the blank audio area.
4. When finished you could always go back to the Clip Menu and group or link audio to video depending on which of these options is available.

(Mike, I almost missed your post since it was not in the Premiere Elements forum here. However, you are in good hands with Byron whatever forum that you are in.)

ATR,

Thanks for adding to the topic!

I agree with you that my Key Frame #3 would be manually set -- I was imagining setting them all manually.

I wonder if mikek could create a "Bars and Tone" clip and swipe the audio from that, in lieu of downloading a sound file?

Good Morning Byron,

Before I posted my comments yesterday, I tried the audio of the Premiere Elements 4/New Items/Bars and Tone source as a fill in audio for the censored word(s), but it did not seem give a sound appropriate for the situation. But, that is just me. I would say try it for a specific situation and, if it does not work, then explore the numerous censor beep.wav available online as free downloads.

Thanks Byron and ATR! I used the key frame technique and it worked perfectly. Yes, it was manual, but easy to manage and I did already download a censor bleep in the form of a wav., inserted it in the appropriate place and it worked just great. I will try the unlink/split clip procedure for practice and to see which works better for me. Thanks again.
