Elements 6.0 has stopped recognising NEF Format pictures

Hi,

Up until tonight Elements has downloaded Nikon NEF format pics from my D40. Today I inserted my memory card into the reader and it seemed to "see" all 36 but when it got to organise it only imported 5 and the rest showed as icons with a broken picture. I can see all the pictures ok in windows explorer.
I've downloaded the latest plug in from Adobe (but this was the same one as installed but I replaced it anyway in case it was corrupted), but no change.
has anyone got any suggestions how to solve this?

If you double-click one of the broken-image thumbnails or view it full screen (F11), do you see the image? If so, then this Adobe tech note will likely solve your problem:
