I want to create some rounded corners on some of my pictures and background images for website tables.
Do you have any tricks for making these?

Click the "U" key. That will bring up the rectangle and related tools. One of those is the rounded corner rectangle tool. On your background, draw the size you want the picture to be. Drag the picture on top of the rectangle layer, then click CTRL G. That will group it with the rectangle, and you can still move it around to get it place where you want it. -----------------------------------------------------------Then either make a stroke outline, or use the rounded rectangle tool to make a mat the color you want on a new layer that is positioned just below your photo layer. Hope that is clear. ----------------------------------------------------------------------Shar, who had no idea how to do such a thing just a few short months ago!

Thanks Shar,
I've been playing around with the rounded rectangle tool. Unfortunately, I'm not as good as some of the artists around here. Even while holding the shift key, I have problem draging the tool to an exact size. As far as I know, there's no way to fix the size like you can do with the crop tool? I'm trying to make borders. By creating a white duplicate layer, then reducing it in size, I can get the effect I'm looking for, kinda. I would also like to make a gradient rounded border. I'm hoping someone will come along with a trick I haven't thought of. The great thing with elements is there's always a different way. Opps, gotta go, UPS at the door.

Try the rectangular marquee tool which you can set to a fixed size. Once you have it in position use Select>Modify>Smooth. You'll need to experiment with the radius (unless you have PSE6 and use refine edge where you can see the change). Once you havfe it right, invert the selection and delete and you'll have rounded edges.

Yes, you can make it a fixed size. On the tool bar, look to the right of the different choices for shapes, and you'll see a little down-arrow. If you click that, it will let you set the size you want. :D Shar
