I have used the "R" tool to smudge but I don't seem to be able to make it sharpen or blur.
When I change the icon to a Drop, and move the "brush" over the image nothing happens; even when it is set to 100%.
I tried key combinations but that didn't seem to help.
What am I doing wrong?

Usually when I see no results from a brush, or an eraser, etc., it's because I haven't selected the correct layer in the layers palette. Shar

Speaking of layers:
I was trying it without a layer.
It occurred to me that that was the problem; that the blur tool needed to be working from a layered copy of the image.
So I created a duplicate of the image, turned off the "background" image and tried using the blur tool with the selected layer. Still, nothing happens.
So I don't think that's it.

Maybe you need to choose a bigger brush size? I could not see any blur until i increased the size.

Hi Mike ..
The effect of the blur tool and sharpen tool is very slight especially if you are using high resolution images ... :)
Try it on a low resolution image and you will see what I mean

My image resolution was only 180ppi, but it's 18x13 inches in size, The brush size wasa huge 1650px and completely surrounds my subject.
So I tried reducing the size of the image I got the expected results. :)
This question has been bugging me for a long time!
Thanks for solving it for me. :D
