Hi all, I am in trouble; yesterday while copying Images to PSE6, I received an Error Message: "Adobe PSE 6 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Then PSE 6 closes. I tried to repair from the Control Panel without Success. Also, uninstalling and then reinstalling did not correct the problem. I'm stuck, please help.Ed Weidman:confused:

Check out the following Adobe TechNotes to see if anything suggested there helps. Since you did not say what your operating system was, I am posting the links for Windows XP as well as for Vista.

http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb402603&sliceId=1
More details about your "copying images to PSE6", your available RAM, and free hard drive space might help. How is your Photoshop Elements 6 set up Full Editor/Edit Menu/Preferences/Performance? Have you done this "copying images to PSE6" before and it worked? Or, is this the first time you have done this procedure?
To be continued....

Add on....
Depending on how things go, it would be helpful to get more information on your computer...when did you defragment last, have you removed junk files with a program such as ccleaner, did you add any new programs lately???
At this time, is Photoshop Elements 6 the only program with issues?

ATR not to hijack Mr. Weidmans post but just curious, I used ccleaner yesterday for the first time but very cautiously, have not received any errors "yet" on PC with XP. Do you like ccleaner or does it cause problems like Mr Weidmans above?

Hi ATR, thanks for your replies. I am using XP (as I listed) . How would I check for the "Full Editor/Edit,etc.?
I had copied to PES6 before but never from a DVD.I have defragmented before but never used CCCleaner. PSE6 is the only program with issues. TIA, Ed Weidman:confused:

Hi ATR, i just bought and used CCCleaner. That did not help.
I had reset PSE6 to open in the Editor and able via Preferences to see that my Available Ram is 413 MB.
The details of the problem in Blue Screen shows: "...in the Temp folder: ec91_ appcompat.txt" as the problem. Does that help you in understanding where the problem is?
Also, is there a way to speak to a live Person at Adobe Tech. Support? Again my thanks. Ed:)

That appcompat.txt file isn't the problem - it's the file that contains details of the problem for sending to someone (eg Microsoft). If you open the file in notepad then it may or may not be helpful in diagnosing what the problem is.

As for Adobe Live Support via phone contact, this is the best information that I could come up with at the Adobe web site:
http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/
You say that you were copying images for the first time from a DVD to Photoshop Elements 6. In what format were the images on the DVD disc? Were they jpeg photos that were burned to a DVD disc as jpegs? Or, were they part of a slideshow that might have been in DVD-VIDEO format on that DVD disc? How many images were you copying, all at one time?
After you put the DVD disc in the DVD drive (just before you began your copying process) where did you want to copy to? Were you in Windows Explorer? Was it a location on the hard drive such as Documents, My Videos, other? Could you list step by step what you did, ending with this Blue Screen and exactly what interface you were in when the Blue Screen occurred?
In the Photoshop Elements 6 Full Editor, Edit Menu/Preferences/Performance, you say that the listing for Available RAM is 413 MB. That seems to me to be on the low side. How much installed RAM do you have? Right click on My Computer, select Properties. At the bottom of Properties, you should see a value for RAM (either in MB or GB). In that Performance dialog you should see:
Available RAM: 413 MB (what you said you had)
Ideal Range: ________ - __________ (fill in the blanks)
Let Photoshop Elements use: _______________ (fill in the blanks).
Ed and Jancy, I use ccleaner for computer maintenance and, if indicated, in troubleshooting to “clear the decks”. This is the link that I use:
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
I have never had any problems after its use. It does a good job of getting rid of computer junk. I have Desktop Windows XP Professional and Laptop Windows XP Home Edition (I have 1 GB RAM installed and available and keep the free internal hard drive space at about 52 GB (the capacity is about 75 GB)
Ed, I am suspecting that you may be dealing with something related to what you are doing and/or a resource problem. If you supply the information that I mentioned above, I will work on this issue this afternoon and see if I can work about the wrinkles. If you contact Adobe, they will charge you for technical service support, UNLESS the problem is related to an installation issue of the current version.
Right now I do not know the significance of your Blue Screen message: ec91_appcompat.txt. I am working on that.
I will be watching for your reply.

Hi ATR, Although I thought that the DVD contained Photos which I wanted to send to PSE 6, in fact, to my dismay, it contains 13 MP3 files of large sizes. How can I remove their contents? Where would they be located? Ed:confused:

After you put your DVD in the DVD drive, what did you do next? Did you designate a save location for your copying process? If so, what was it? Describing what you did in more detail may help us find those files if they ever got copied to the hard drive.
If you do not know what that location was and you think the those mp3 files are on your hard drive, you could:
1. Start Menu/Search/All Files & Folders, and put in info from these files and see if you can find them that way. What makes you think that they got saved at all?
From what you said, you have about 400 MB available RAM. When you got the computer, how much RAM was installed, 512 MB, 1 GB, other?
When you got the computer, what was the capacity of your internal hard drive? How much free hard drive space do you have at the present time?
Go to Start Menu/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Defragmentation and look at what it says there for internal hard drive capacity as well as available free internal hard drive space. Once you see what it says, you can just close out of there.
See how that goes. I will continue to watch for your response.

I get same error as Mr. Weidman when I try to open the PSE6 Organizer. The last time it worked properly, I was using the fix tab to do some quick cropping to several images. The cropped images were saved as part of a version set. I've never edited images in this fashion before. I previously would open each image in the Editor (full edit), make changes, then save.
The error did not occur, as it appeared to in Mr. Weidman's case, while I was working in the program...but rather when I tried to open it later.
I've tried the first 6 fixes proposed by Adobe. I've also uninstalled w/virus checker turned off (including deleting any traces left behind I could find on the hard drive under documents and settings as well as under program files/adobe) and reinstalled... but it didn't help. One thing I didn't do was clean-up the registry after the uninstall.
I've tried twice to email Adobe support and both times after clicking the submit button, a screen comes up saying something to the effect "can't find that page on the website", so I don't think they're even getting my messages. I was able to send a message via their request for feedback on their website...but in that I only complained about the problem with emailing tech support.
So before going to sleep last night I uninstalled PSE again. When I get home from work this evening I am going to run reg. mechanic, then try install once again...but I'm not confident it will help. I am open to any other suggestions. I really don't want to have to go through the other 15 or so suggestions Adobe has posted, especially when they get down to reinstall XP or reformat the hard drive.
Meanwhile yesterday, I used Corel PSPP X2 to do my editing. It's a good program, but workflow is a bit different the PSE.
My system: HP Pavilion running XP MCE w/SP2. 4gb ram. about 50gb free drive space on main drive, and another 50gb on portable.
