does anyone know how to get a copyright symbol entered from a laptop?
i know you need to hit function to access your keypad, but i punch in 0169 and nothing happens?

Try turning on the "Numlock" and the keys on the right side of the keyboard should turn into you "keypad". Now, hold down the "ALT" key and press the keys for 0169. Remember to turn off "Numlock" when you are finished.

canonnate,

On my Toshiba laptop, my number pad keys are also avialable by holding down a "Fn" (function?) button.

I can hold down Fn, then hold down ALT, then tap in the 4-digit symbol number using the letter/number keys, then when I release Fn and ALT --- ©

(It won't work if I try to press ALT, and then Fn -- has to be in that exact order)

It is essentially the same advice as from jim0004, but you don't have to go back and un-Numlock your keyboard when you're done.

Failing that, you could use Character Map (Start > Run > charmap).

Interesting, on my laptop the only series that works is:

Alt function and MJO9 (letter O)
