View Full Version : Brushes in Photoshop

I know there are quite a few Photoshop users here, so I thought I would post this question. When going through brush sets I always get the question asking if I want to replace "X" set with "Y" set and then given the choices of Append, Cancel or OK. I can bypass this dialogue box by holding down the option key (Mac) but is all this normal? In PSE I was used to just scrolling between sets with no questions asked and allowing my left hand to be free! I can't find any answers to this in my books, so I'm wondering if this is just something I have to accept as a Photoshop annoyance? And if I hit Append, and all the brushes are combined, will it all revert back to the normal sets when I next open PS?
Thanks!

When using CS3 i also get the same question. Yes they return to normal after using append.

Steven,
using CS3 (on a pc), I load brushes and append them to the list, then they are still there when I exit and go back in. (When I loaded some just now to check, it appended them without asking me so maybe it now knows that is the answer I give).
Then every once in a while, from the fly out menu at the side, I reset brushes which puts back the defaults (giving another box of ok, cancel or append), I click ok.
Yes, I find it more cumbersome than how I had the brushes in PSE, and I haven't been using them so much. I think I just need to get used to it :)
hth, and give Ping a cuddle from me :)

Thanks for the reply, Jancy and Lisa. I think I will continue to use the option key for awhile to keep the sets separate as I don't want my brushes all mixed up. I guess I can see the advantage of using append but I like how it works in PSE where you just went from set to set without the dialogue box. It's not that difficult!
