View Full Version : Why does a file resize when dragged to another sized file?

OK, this is pretty basic. I probably forgot about something I've read about before.

I sized four images at 400WX500H pixels to create a panel.

I sized a blank layer, say at 700HpixelsX1750Wpixels, to drag the images onto. ( If you think there'd be a better size for a horizontal panel with four vertical 400X500 pixel images to fit into, please suggest it. )

When I drag one of the images onto the blank layer it resizes into the larger dimension.

How do I keep the smaller files at 400X500 pixels when I drag them onto the blank layer?

What color do you suggest for the panel?

I want to put four birthday cake images on a single horizontal panel.

The panel and the individual pictures need to be at the same resolution (PPI).

I'm not sure I understand this problem.

If you create one image at 400 x 500 and then drag it onto another image of whatever dimensions, the first one still has 400 x 500 pixels. It doesn't get re-sized even if the resolution isn't the same between images.

So I'm not sure what's happening here. How are you viewing the images?

I didn't have the large file at the same resolution ( 300 )!

Now, it's a work in progress.

Got any suggestions?

This was sized for web at med. res/50

I tried a gradient:

I prefer the gradient.

This is a fantastic idea for a layout.

Glad you figured out the resolution issue - it's such a difficult thing to explain.

I'm having a 10X20 printed of this version:
