I hate the transitions in PSE 6 when making a slide show. They are so basic. Is there a way or a place to add more choices??? Any downloads available...anywhere???
Thanks

Do you have Premiere Elements 4 installed on your computer as well as Photoshop Elements 6?
And, what are you going to do with your Photoshop Elements 6 slideshow once your have created it, Output???

I do not know of any 3rd party sources for new transitions for Photoshop Elements 6.
If you do not have Premiere Elements 4, how are you planning on generating a DVD-VIDEO version of your Photoshop Elements 6 slideshow? Are you going to output it Save As (.wmv) and then burn the .wmv to a DVD-VIDEO with a software such as Nero (its Nero Vision application, if it has the DVD-VIDEO plug)?
I mentioned Premiere Elements 4 for two basic reasons:
1. It has additional opportunities for video transitions once you get your Photoshop Element 6 slideshow over to Premiere Elements and "broken down". Details to follow when and if needed.
2. If you say that you intend to put your slideshow on a DVD, I am interpreting that to mean that you want to play the slideshow on the TV/DVD player. You cannot do that JUST with Photoshop Elements 6. However, you can create a VCD (lesser quality product there) without Premiere Elements.
I do not know what you are expecting in a video transition. Last time I looked there were a lot of transitions offered in Photoshop Elements 6. Keep in mind that you do not really want anything too distracting to the beauty of your slideshow. Many just use the fades, wipes, as well as pan/zoom effects for adjacent photos.
Right now I would suggest that you download from Adobe a 30 tryout of Premiere Elements 4 and take a look at what is has to offer:
1. getting your DVD-VIDEO generated via Photoshop Elements 6/Premiere Elements 4 integration
2. other opportunities for more transitions.
Let me know the outcome. I will watch for your progress.

I wasn't too happy with the results from Elements either, and a number of people were talking about Pro Show Gold, which I investigated, downloaded the free sample, worked with it, liked it very much, and bought it. Go to www.photodex.com (http://www.photodex.com) and have a look. Their support is also excellent.

Thank you for your help! I have a proggy called convertX to DVD and it takes the wmv file from elements and converts to a file that Nero then burns to DVD. Yes, I want to show the slide show on the TV. Before elements I used wondershare flash slide show and love it but I couldn't convert that swf file to DVD. However, I just loved there transitions. I agree with you about keeping it simple, and fade, swipe and pan zoom are the only 3 transitions I liked in Elements. I have made a beautiful slide show in black and white's, with photo's of my ancestors, dating back to the 1800's. I have spend weeks in psp retouching old photos and I just hate settling after all that work. I am going to take your suggestion and download a trial of the other program and give it a go.
Again, thank you,

Rosy--
I make DVD slide shows all the time using Elements Premiere 4 and I love it. I edit all the photos (and a very occasional video) in Photoshop and then use Premiere to compile the show and then burn to a DVD. There are a lot of transition and other great options. And it's pretty simple to use. I'm sure there are other programs that might do more but I have been very happy with the Premiere options and the great interface back to the Organizer that the new version incorporated. I never would discourage testing other programs but just wanted to put in my 2 cents.
I also just do it for fun and for some of the sports teams that my kids play on, so the audience has been very happy.

Kevin, I downloaded a trial of adobe premiere elements and then sent my slide show from elements 6 into premiere elements. Now I have one file that I can't open to work on.....how do you get your slide show into premiere elements so the photos are seperated on the scene or time line? Does any of that make sense?
Thanks, Nell

I know what you are saying but I am not sure about the answer as I always make my slideshows from within Premier and don't send them over from Elements. Sorry. Hope somebody else can answer that one!

Nell,
When you are finished creating your slideshow in Photoshop Elements 6, go up to the Photoshop Elements 6 Slide Show Editor Options Bar/Output and select "Send to Premiere Elements". This will send a non .wmv version to Premiere Elements 4 which will open automatically with your slideshow on its Timeline.
Right click the video on the Timeline and select the option "Break Apart Photoshop Elements Slide Show". If you are doing all this in the Sceneline view, then right click the slideshow thumbnail in the Sceneline's Film Strip and select the option "Break Apart Photoshop Elements Slide Show".
I prefer using the Timeline. I feel that you can see what is going on and have better control of most situations.
As you get deeper into Premiere Elements, you may want to take al look at some of the threads in the Premiere Elements forums here. I will be watching for your progress.

Thank you so much. I will try that. I did right click and didn't see as an option. Maybe I sent it from elements incorrectly. I'm going to try it right now.

Because I have the trial version there is no help section. Could you please tell me how to Change Image Duration once the slide show is broken down. I have spent the day searching and experimenting and for the life of me...I can't figure it out.
Thanks,
Nell

Does anyone know where I can find out what this error number means? I tried to burn to dvd from premiere elements and after about 4 hours I got this error message # 2130932483
Is it because I'm using the trial version?
Any help would be so appreciated before I purchase.
Thanks,
Nell
PS also where can I find the speed it burns to dvd so I can match my burner to it.

Are you looking to change the duration of all slides or just some selected ones?

I was also unhappy with the slide show using elements and so bought Proshow Gold after doing some research. I love it and would highly recommend it for slide shows.

Rosy--
When you have an image in the preview screen there are small markers immediately beneath the image that represent the beginning and the end of the image in the show. You can click and hold on either one and drag it out in order to lengthen the time that the image will play in the show.

Bonnie--
Do you find it to be superior to Premiere? Could you offer some specifics? Sorry to be a pain but I am trying to make a decision and any input would be greatly appreciated.

Nell,
This is one way. Make sure that you select the Selection Tool icon (arrow) above the Timeline (it is just above where it shows the Timeline time of 00:00:40:00).
Increasing the duration:
Then take your mouse and bring it to the right edge of the photo. Watch for your cursor to change to what looks like a backward E with a missing middle and whose middle is a double sided black arrow. Then click and drag that left photo edge. Later you can place your cursor over the photo to bring up a quick list which includes duration for you to see what value you set. If you want to decrease the duration, then right click the photo and select Time Stretch where you can dial in a value.
Watch out for what is happening to the transitions that have remained intact after you broke down the slideshow. When you extend the duration of a photo, you may have to extend transition durations as well with the click and drag. Or, decrease them by right clicking the transition, selecting Show Properties, in Properties decrease the transition duration.
Any gaps in the Timeline can be closed by right clicking the gap and selecting Delete and Close Gap.
When it comes just to decreasing the duration or transition for the broken apart slideshow on the Timeline, I find you can easily use the Time Stretch (via right click video/select Time Stretch). You will see what I mean about differences about increasing vs decreasing durations once you get into this.
If any further questions, please let me know.
