Duplicate File Removal

I have carelessly let a large number of duplicate files build up in Elements 6. I probably have about 8,000 images, but 30,000 files. Any ideas on how to remove duplicates other than doing it one at a time?

There's a program out there names Spring Cleaning which detects duplicate files and allows you to delete them.
I can't recall who makes it but you can search for it. I fairly certain that it's available for both mac and PC.
I seem to think it was from the makers of Stuffit Expander.

We use Duplicate File Finder (http://www.ashisoft.com) from ashisoft to find and remove duplicate files.

This software very easy to use and advance marking system makes it unique in its class.

There's a freeware solution I found in Tucows, I plan on getting it myself later, but haven't tried it yet. Tucows rated it highly.

Here's a recipe for finding duplicates in your catalog using the Organizer:

This approach will find duplicates even if their file size and modification dates are different (e.g. because you tagged one copy but not the other), something that trips up a lot of the utilities. It will also let you decide which copy you might want to retain based on tags or other metadata you've applied.

I tried this software I could not believe how great it worked and easy. Boy did I not only find doubles but 3,4 and 5 of the same file. I suggest even though you can scan more that one drive at a time. That you only do one at a time because it find them for you but you need to go throw the file and decide which ones you want to delete. This can take some time.

Good to hear you have made progress. If you read the thread "I want to move everything to an EHD" you'll see I'm in the same position you were in last August .
I'm interested to know which method/software you finally used as I have been given the advice and see it repeatedly not to move,copy or delete outside of PSE.
Any advice most welcome
