Does anyone know any thing about pse7 that's supposed to be coming out soon? I started with pse2 and then moved up to pse4 for Mac. After the wrinkles were straightened out and I was up and rolling. Then came six! I had to have it! Well I am getting used to it and like some new features but it is taking me longer to remember where to click on a symbol or icon as one can not see them, dark gray on a black back ground etc. Small things that I getting to know but it is hard to learn something new in photoshop when your trying to learn the software. I am hoping that Adobe will address some if not most of the complaints that I have read about pse6 on this forum. Please don't get me wrong--I do like what I have now but I would probably upgrade if they made the next version more user friendly. Sorry about being "long winded" over a simple question. BillandCat

Bill, I have not heard anything of late on Ver 7. I think we will see the release of PSCS4 before we see PSE7.
I wish I could agree with you about the background coloration. For many years I worked in the darkroom. When digital came along, I continued to work in Photoshop in very subdued light. With lights on in the digital darkroom, I too struggle to see certain things. But since 99% of my editing is done in subdued lighting or no lighting at all in the room, I see everything with clarity. I have poor vision as it is and wearing of bi-focals, most opposing light interferes with my vision. The former scheme, PSE5 and earlier and all PS verstions to date I have struggled because of the brightness of the work area. When LR was first introduced, my vision was given an advantage that it only experienced in the dark room and that was to be able to see more accurately with a more friendly work area background color. For what it is worth, I hope, personally, that Adobe never goes back, but should they contemplate going back to the former, that they give the consumer the option to make the changes to suit their needs. Then maybe everyone will be happy...then again there is always an exception.

Thanks Ric for your response. It really is not the background I don't like. In fact, I do like it for all the reasons you mentioned. What I'm saying is that some of the options are too hard to read and until this old goat learns what the changes are, it is slow going. I too did black and white dark room work---just amateur work---like so many of us did at my age so we accepted pse with open arms. I can't wait to get new snap-shotsto make them acceptable pictures. I am 86 and believe me, this is the greatest thing for me to do. It was just a thought of mine to ask this question about pse7. I will still plug along and will still enjoy this hobby and of course, this great forum. BillandCat

Well here's my guess, not being privy to any inside info but being pretty good at picking up odd thing on the internet. I expect PSE7 will be out before Christmas. I think they'll stick with the dark background just like they have with Lightroom and I have to admit I like it - but only when you adjust your monitor to differentiate the darker shades of grey. Most monitors out of the box aren't adjusted optimally but with a bit of tweaking PSE6 does become easy to work with. Maybe they will make some adjustments to make some of the options a bit easier to differentiate but, like Ric, I hope they don't go back to the previous backgrounds (and I have old eyes too :)).

Bill, the darkroom was my profession for many years. With the advent of digital in the printing, things have changed, some great, some not so great. One thing I can agree with you on is that Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, and Photoshop Lightroom have made photography fun in retirement. While my vision may not be as good as it was so many years ago, at least I can toil, if you will, in my favorite passion as a photographer. The background scheme as it is with PSE6, I certainly understand your concern and those that have echoed your sentiments as well. I would think, sometime in the not too distant future, Adobe, would incorporate an option to select workspace color and then maybe everyone would be happy. Imagine creating a custom workspace that is unique to your needs...how neat that would be...ah to dream.
Tony, you could be right about release of Ver. 7, but I wonder if Adobe would wait until the spring, I am thinking that CS4 would be released this fall sometime. But then again, who knows.

The last several Windows versions of PSE have been released in the fall, the traditonal time to get products out before the Christmas season. PSE 6 was released late September 2007. Adobe was soliciting pre-release testers for PSE 7 end of May, so it seems likely that PSE 7 is on track to be released sometime this fall.
