I see all these fantastic styles online that you can buy, but none of them seem to mention that they can be used in PSE, but are more for Photoshop itself.

Now I only know PSE6 and I really love working with it, so I don't really want to move to another program to be able to use these styles.
I have purchased a glitter style a while back and havent been able to get it working in PSE6 yet.

Is there anyone out there that has a clear cut way on how to install them in PSE6 and to get them working, your help would be very much appreciated.

Hi ..

There are lots of free styles around that you can experiment with ... and almost all of them will work in Elements.

Installing them in PSE6 is different and slightly more complex than in previous versions ... but here is the simple way to install them. Just put the .asl file here:

Mac: System>Lib>Application Support>Adobe>Photoshop Elements>6.0>Locale> en-US >Photo Creations>Layer Styles

Windows XP: C: Documents & Setting>All Users|Application Data>Adobe>Photoshop Elements>6.0>Locale> en-US or your own locale>Photo Creations>Layer Styles

Windows Vista: C:Program Data>Adobe>Photoshop Elements>6.0>Locale> en-US>Photo Creations>Layer Style

Then restart Elements and the style will appear in the effects palette under Show All.

Hello Wendy,

I have placed the styles in the link you specified in your post, but I still dont see them when I open PSE6. I added a glitter, 2 gold and a textured silver bevel style. Do you have any idea what might cause them not to show??

Your help would be very welcome.

Thnx,

Tan

Hi ..

It sounds like the database hasn't automatically rebuilt .. so try this:

Rename the Mediadatabase.db3 to MediadatabaseOLD .db3located at C: Documents & Setting\All Users|Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Locale\ en-US or your own localeS and restarte Elements ... the Mediadatabase.db3 will rebuild but you may have to wait a while for it to do so.

Vista is ... C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0 etc

That should sort it out :)

You better not be going anywhere lol, in case I run into some problems again.

Wendy

Put .asl file in correct path as you indicated for Mac - but no new Layer styles appear - I have installed the danlewin-gold.asl - but none of the 6 styles appear - thanks for any help you can give.

Hi Wade ...

Have you tried rebuilding the database ... (see an earlier message in this thread)

The Mac path to locate it is;

Rename the Mediadatabase.db3 to MediadatabaseOLD.db3 (it is located at Library\Application Support\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Locale\ en-US) and restart Elements ... the Mediadatabase.db3 will rebuild but you may have to wait a while for it to do so

Hopefully that will sort it out for you :)
