Just finished building a dream video processing computer to restart an old interest in photography. Used to shoot weddings and antique cars with a Hasselblad in the 80's. Got a little Coolpix as a gift recently, and started shooting vacation pictures and cats, now I'm ready to move up to, I think, a Sony A350. My initial software was Picasa, which I still have to use cause PE6 wont order prints from Walgreens. (or anywhere else) I have been shecking out many different forums, and Village seems really good. Would like to settle on one and be a regular.

Welcome to the Village.
From your description it won't be long before you will be printing your own photos. It gives you better control and a sense of satisfaction.
That is once you get your monitor calibrated and color management under control.
Again welcome.

AAAAAH. I just found one of the "Quick Reply" icons, obviously. Printing on my own printer I'm sure I can do, it's getting 35 simple shots of wife's cats to spit out at ANY online printer.

Consider making composites of her favorite photos.
There are many composite layouts you can easily master.

Hello, and welcome to the village. Looking forward to seeing your work, sounds like you will have some interesting stuff to put in your gallery.

Last week I bought my first SLR. Sony A200 which is the model previous to the one you are looking at. Wow, am I on a learning curve! Easier for you I imagine because you would already know all the settings etc. I am determined to get out of 'auto' mode......eventually;) Hope you do buy the Sony, I would love to pick your brain:D

Welcome to the village. Look forward to seeing your work. Once you get a taste of the better print quality you can do at home compared to online, I bet you won't want to go back...and no nasty chemicals!

1. Nice gallerys, I looked at them all. I don't get the camera til the end of August, my birthday, so it'l be awhile before I have anything to post.
2. I got a free HP C3180 printer. 4800dpi. I didn't think it would match online print quality. thanks Dale.

Welcome,
I just recently got my first digital camera, a Canon XSi. And this forum has been so very helpful. I haven't created a gallery yet as I am still learning how to use forums, organize photos  and such. I am learning so much thanks to the good people here. Anyway I hope you enjoy your stay and learn lots.
Have fun,
