 I have a very annoying problem: Whenever I'm using the Lasso tool, I have trouble getting the line exactly where I want it. When I try to hit an exact area, the tool jumps to the side millimeters from where I want it. It's as though it's "snapping to a grid" or something. It doesn't seem to matter how much I enlarge the area, it still "snaps". What is the problem, please. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

Could be that you have a figure entered in the Feather box in the Options Bar. If you have a number in that box, the selection will jump to show it's feathering by the entered amount. Delete the number, make your selection and your selection 'ants' shouldn't jump. You can always feather afterwards by going to Select > Feather and entering the amount. Or, if you have Elements 6, you may wish to go to Refine Edge. Hope that solves the annoyance!

The problem may, indeed, be that it is snapping to the Grid.

On the menu, under View, you will find the "Snap To" selection. Some versions only offer "Snap to Grid", others have a sub-menu with Grid and Guides both offered. Whatever your version, clear any checkmarks which would enable snapping.

Are you using the magnetic lasso tool by mistake? I find that it has a tendency to "jump" more than the regular lasso tool. Shar
