Hey there! This is my first post here. I've done some searching but cannot find an answer to the following... so any and all help is MUCH appreciated.

Is there a way to turn off the auto-creation of "filename_edited_##" whenever I go to edit a photo in PS/CS3 from PSE6 Organizer???

It's creating all these excess versions of my photos and bloating the footprint per image (not good). I want to control how many copies of whatever image I have. I don't need a new "_edited_" version every time I want to re-open an image and tweak it. I prefer to open an image (create a duplicate or whatever) and then use Save As to create the new version.

Is there a way to turn it off? Please make it STOP!

Yeah, I could use Bridge, but I prefer the way PSE6 handles organization a lot better.

Please advise. Thanks!

If you did the editing in PSE, you could uncheck Save in Version Set with Original, which would let you save under the name of the last opened version and thereby overwrite the previous file.

Going to an "external editor" (CS) as you do, there is no such option. I did not test it with CS, but it appears as if the file is by default opened with the ...edited-X.xxx name, the X being the next higher increment.

If it is the first edit, that comes in handy to avoid overwriting the original. The next time around you could just change the file name in the dialog box back to ...edited-1 or whichever the last version number was.

Otherwise, after the editing session is ended, you could delete previous versions from the version set(s).

This should be a feature request for the next version. I understand making it sort of "dummy proof" by creating a copy the user will edit... but some of us want a bit more control of duplicates.

I've found that to be a bit annoying at times too. BUT - it forces me to stop and think about what I'm doing instead of automatically proceeding with the save and possibly overwriting something I much rather would have kept in its original form.
