Does PSE 6.0 have the ability of adjustment layers and layer masks?

Yes.

You can create a Levels Adjustment Layer, Brightness/Contrast Adjustment Layer, Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer, etc.

PSE6 does have adjustment layers with masks attached (not as many as full blown PS) and there are third party layer masks (free or minimal cost) there are also work arounds for a layer mask without adding any extras.

Why not download the 30 day trial and give it a go.:)

thanks for the advice. i wish i could download the PSE 6.0 trial, but i'm pretty much on dial up access at the moment. :( I'm trying to find out what it has and doesn't have so can just go out and buy it!

I think you can also get a free trial CD. They are often stuck to photography/scrapbooking magazine covers so you could try to get one that way.

Alternatively, if you buy PSE6 and don't like it and want to get CS3, you get a $100 discount on the upgrade which covers the cost of your PSE6 purchase so you aren't losing any money.
