I decided I wanted start practicing with editing RAW images so I took a few shots. Elements Help under "To open and process camera raw files" says "In the Editor, choose File > Open."
Whether I try to open the files directly from the CF card or transfer them to my computer, I can't open them. I get an error message that says, "Cannot open (path and file name) because it is the wrong type of file."
What am I doing wrong?:confused::confused:

First point to make is NEVER try to open the files in your Memory Card, always transfer them to the PC first. This way you run less risk of damaging your original image.
Second point is you need to make sure that your camera is supported by the bit that does the RAW processing. This is a module known as ACR and you can download the latest version from here...

You don't say what version of Elements you have so be careful since some of the later releases of ACR wont work with earlier versions of PSE.

Thank you Colin. I'll try the download.
Sorry about forgetting to mention the version - it's 5. It also probably would have been helpful to mention that my camera is Canon (Rebel Xti.)
Thanks again,

More questions.
So just to double-check . . . it's OK to download and use the Camera Raw update even though I'm using PSE5 and the site references CS3?
Also, is there any advantage to larger version with the DNG converter?
