It's back! After working all afternoon on some pictures, my computer started to delay all commands. I decided to shut it down and restart. Now it will not open in PSE5 or PSE6. This has happened before to me a few months ago and again when I have downloaded a large quantity of information. Today I did not do that. Every time I restart and try to open the program the blue icon stops at 'scanning system profile.' This happened in both PSE5 and PSE6.

I'm using an HP laptop with plenty of memory and I've changed my ram to 2046 MB. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do?

Although you say that the circumstances involved during this happening are not exactly the same as previous issue, you did not say what did you do to resolve the previous issue besides increasing the available RAM?

Is your operating system Windows XP or Vista?

Please review the Photoshop Elements 6 Read Me Adobe TechNote,
Section: Photoshop Elements Editor Notes
Subsection: Initialization and Preferences Files

Have you gone into your Photoshop Elements 6 Edit Menu/Preferences/Performance and made sure that Performance dialog is optimized for your situation?

Do you have an external hard drive (format NTFS, not FAT32) that you could unload some C: drive saved downloads to?

There are other AdobeTech Notes for Troubleshooting program freezes when the program has been opened, but, from your description, your present problem appears to be initialization.

ATR,

Thanks for the reply. Last night I did a system restore and was able to get back in to PSE. This problem usually occurs when I download large files. I did go into my preferences and optimize them. I have dual drives on my lap top and recently moved all my pictures and PSE downloads to the D drive. I also have a 500Gb external hard drive where I've copied all my files. I still have a few files on my C drive that I can move.

By the way I am using Vista which I am not thrilled about.

Thanks again, :)
