I downloaded the 30 day trial version of Elements 3 and I've been trying to open raw images from my Canon D30. When I start the download the software from the camera sends the image over as Tiff file and the raw editor doesn't open. I think it should be sent over as a camera raw image but I can't figure out how do do this, can anyone HELP. :?:

Are you trying to access the raw in Organizer? Try to access it with the editor.

TIFF isn't a RAW format... You need to save files on your camera using the RAW format, which for the D30 is crw.

PE3 can open RAW files in Photo Browser, Folder Browser and Editor.

Hope this helps

The image as taken has the .crw extension but somwhere between the Canon software and Elements 3 it's converted to a .tiff. I can't figure out how to import it with .crw file extension.

Vic, you may want to consider buying an inexpensive compact flash card reader and use it to download your files directly to your hard drive. You can get a downloader program (Downloader 1.5 by BreezeBrowser) to help in the process, or you can use the Organizer. The files transferred in this manner are not converted from CRW (RAW); that's left up to the excellent ACR plug-in that resides on the front end of the PSE3 editor.

p.s. The only Canon software I've kept on my computer is PhotoStitch; the rest are a waste of good bytes...

well that my was next suggestion!! I have dumped all Canon software from my PC and just use a reader & Organiser. It's the Canon software that is converting Vic's files.

Mike, as I mentioned I did keep PhotoStitch because it does a better job for me than Elements or CS; not sure why, but it's noticeably better, especially where sky segments are involved.

Chuck,

Is it really that much better? ... If it is I may install it. I didn't install any of the Canon software at all ... ummmm now I wonder where the disk is :?:

I just tried my Canon software - I had assumed it wouldn't be as good as PSE 3 - stitched 2 pictures - results were MUCH better than PSE 3. I am amazed. Also the Canon stitch ended up 15MB and the PSE 3 stitch is 67 MB. Why would that be?

(The Canon software came with my printer that was a Christmas present from our oldest son).

While Canon software is very good it does fall down in two areas. Well the version I had did. First it wouldn't allow photomontages and secondly in Elements 3 you can keep the images as layers and play like crazy with them before you committed them to printing. That being said the Canon software is a great tool to have on your computer.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll get a card reader and give it a try.
