I am having some problems resizing and cropping. If I resize an image without cropping I can maintain a 300+dpi for quality prints. I only use standard sizes, 4x6, 5x7, 8x10 etc. When I crop an image all does not work as well. after cropping I sometimes cannot get close to the image size I want and I cannot maintain 300dpi. What is the best way to resize an image and maintain enough dpi for quality images? billmorris12@hotmail.com

Check the Resample box and your image will remain at the present resolution.
As far as resizing from 4 X 6 to your other sizes the aspect ratio is off so you will have to do some cropping.
I find the best way to get the most pleasing crop is to scale the image
After dragging your image to the new document.
Go to Image>Resize>Scale
When you see the bounding box position your pointer in any corner.
Holding the mouse button and the shift key down, begin to drag "inward to reduce the image" and "Outward to enlarge the image"
While dragging make sure to hold the shift key down so it reduces and/or enlarges in proportion.
When satisfied with the size and cropping release your key and mouse and your there.
You can in the middle of dragging stop and with the move tool move the image to better fit the new document, then you can continue to scale.
