Can anyone tell me how to make an XML file? I have downloaded some actions for elements and some have XML files and some dont. DOes this mean that they cant be used in elements? I read where you need to create the .psd file and was able to to do that.

Thanks.

This has already been covered on this site, but here is a link which has been posted less than one hour ago...

Hi ...

Something you do need to bear in mind is if the actions are intended to work in Elements ... not all are.

Where did you get them from and which ones are they :)

And you don't actually need an XML file (or a png file for that matter). I tend to check them out first and if they are worth keeping I might make an xml file and a png file. If you just drop them into photo effects they will appear under Show All. xml files are only needed for them to show up in a separate category and png files are only needed if you want a thumbnail and not just a text description.

Thanks. I got the actions from different places on the internet. I wasnt sure if i needed the xml file or not. I was able to put the ones from PanosFX and Graffi over and use them but there were made to be used in elements. Some of the others said they were but they didnt have an xml file. I will try to install them in the correct file and see if they work.

Thanks.

To test the actions you may want to make a test category. That is, create Test PNGs and Test XML files and just swap out the actions by renaming. This will save rebuilding time for the db3 files which can be extensive.

So say you make three test PNGs: test1.png, test2.png, test3.png
and three XML files: test1.xml, test2.xml, test3.xml

[looks like the following:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<PSEContent xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/PSEContent/1.0/">
<global>
<name id="Name" value="test1" localize="true"/>
<type value="effect" />
<typecategory id="TypeCat" value="Test Actions" localize="true" />
</global>
</PSEContent>]

Then you just have to place the .atn files with the test1, test2 or test3 names in the proper folder. I do this when building files to test without re-loading the db3s.
