I am looking for basic tutorials for elements 6 (preferably for the mac). i went to kelly site and saw Practical Photoshop Elements. Is that a good basic beginner class?

Welcome!
One of the best places is at the PET site:

www.photoshopelementsuser.com

If you become a member you have access to a ton of video and written tutorials. Worth every penny for a beginner.

Don't worry about Mac specific tutorials-it is almost exactly the same for both platforms with the major exception being "command" on the Mac v. "control" on the PC.

Do you mean Scott Kelby's site?

I googled for pse for about a year and found tuts. and then I joined here and found many more. I am also a mac user.
Even going to the library and look for books will help too. Not that my library had what i wanted but helped a bit.

Hi Sandra ..

The site that Carol linked to is PET ... and you need to subscribe to access the tutorials. All in all there are over 300 Video & written ones ... and they range from easy ones to more complex ones.

Its well worth the subscription ..

When you are doing a tutorial and you don't understand something then just ask on the forum and one of us will tlak you through things :)

Hi Sandra-

I just popped over to Kelby Training and was delighted to see a Photoshop Elements class over there being offered by Lesa Snider King-who's a PSE guru that you will hear from occasionally here on the forums. Lesa is awesome-and looking down the list of lessons, it seems like a good basic class that will get you up and running. My understanding of the Kelby site is that you can pay by the month or by the year and access whatever is there. They also usually allow a 2-3 lesson preview for free, you just have to register.

That said-I also recommend again that you join here-as Wendy said there are great videos and tutorials that you have unlimited access to as well as all of us here to help.:)

The one area that seems to me to be entirely different Mac versus Windows is the Organizer (Bridge in Mac). Although Scott Kelby's book does have a PDF section on Bridge that you can access, other books I've looked at have very little.
Although I understand that Mac users probably use i-Photo to organize their pictures, I am now using PSE 6 more as I'm shooting RAW files and you can do much more with PSE.
I'm in the process of making my own little notebook of Bridge tips.

I highly recommend www.photoshopelementsuser.com (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com). There are dozens (if not hundreds) of videos available once you join (plus you get the PET magazine too).

There have also been 3 special episodes of Photoshop TV about Elements and there is a link from that site also (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/index.php near the bottom of the page)

You might also try www.youtube.com (http://www.youtube.com)
There are lots of videos on there for Photoshop Elements 6 (mac included) but they tend to be geared more for doing specific things rather than the basics.

You know, Sue you are right-I hadn't even thought about the organizer because I have been using iPhoto so happily all along-don't miss, never even looked at the idea of using anything else. I did take a look at bridge though-very nice and I am sure really useful, but I'll stick with iPhoto;)

Thanks for bringing that up!

I agree iphoto is so great for storing my pics. I do use bridge to browse my card reader/external drives. Another difference for mac is the alt key is the option key. Right clicking is control+click. Mac can turn off the background so can read tuts through the back while working on it.

This is something that drives me nuts when I switch between my macbook and my pc. How do you set it up to use iphoto instead of Bridge?

… How do you set it up to use iphoto instead of Bridge?

Well on you mac book this is how you do it.

1) From the top menu iPhoto>Preferences>General ... set to Photoshop Elements.

2) At this point you can select "Double-click photo = Edit Photo" I never did.

3) If you are using raw then also iPhoto>Preferences>Advanced and click on "Use RAW when using external editor"
