I keep my photos on DVDs. I want to catalog them so I can look at the thumbnails and see which DVD it is on. I have done this. I uncheck the "Copy Files on Import" because I don't want them copied to my hard drive. I've notice, however, that all the pictures are copied to a folder in my Documents and Settings folder called "Preview". Isn't this doing excatly what I didn't want to do? Won't this take up an lot of hard disk space?

You didn't say which version you are using. On my version they are called proxies. Essentially they are big thumbnails and yes they will take up space on your harddrive, but not nearly as much as the full files.

When you look at thumbnails in the photowell of the images stored on your harddrive, Organizer can pull from the original image to make the larger thumbnails and saves only the smaller size thumbnails in the cache.

When you leave the images offline on dvds organizer makes proxies, which are larger thumbnails, so you can see more detail before Organizer starts demanding you put in the souce dvd. You can set the size of these proxies in the preferences. My Slater book suggests that you set the proxy size to equal your monitor size so that you can see a full screen version of the photo without having to load the dvd.

I'm using ver. 6. Thanks so much for clearing that up for me.
