View Full Version : Wavy Bricks

I saw an iron balcony on a brick building today and, with the sun being where it was, it cast this great curved shadow. I was eager to crop it and do some other practicing on it, but when I reduced the image enough to fit on screen (33ish %), the bricks got waves across them. I assume it's an optical illusion because the waves aren't visible at 50% or bigger.

Is there some setting I should change so the bricks look good no matter what size they are? Or will I just need to work on this image at 50% or bigger (meaning I won't be able to see it all on screen at once)? Is this a photography issue (should I have taken a better picture) or an editing issue?

Cassie,

It is an optical illusion -- nothing is wrong with your image, as you see if you view it at 100%.

All I can suggest is slightly changing the zoom amount - sometimes 25% looks great while 33% looks bad. It will depend on your monitor and the image.

Ok, thank you! The bricks look good at 50% or higher, so I'll just have to keep it there when I want to see the full photo. If I make any decisions based on 30ish %, they will definitely end up as mistakes. Thank you!
