Problems with a GIF

Hi. Here's the problem: I opened an existing .gif picture in PSE 3. However, all layer icons, filters, enhancement,etc. options are grayed out.

I tried saving it as a jpg & psd file and then opening the new file, but no luck. Everything was still gray.

Any ideas? Here's a screenshot:

Hi Mike ...

A lot of filters etc don't work in Gifs so changing it to jpg or psd was half right ... now you need to:

Just do Image>Mode ... and change it from Indexed colour to RGB .

That should sort it out .. :)
