I messed up and now I have no idea what to do about it. I shoot everything in raw and I have my raw work flow procedures down well from start to stop. As a learning experiment yesterday I changed the camera settings to shoot in black and white jpg. Today I was able to enter the local train museum maintenance/reconditioning facility and I was getting some nice shots that normally are not available. After shooting 15 images I realized I was still shooting jpg format, Being a rookie not all of the 15 shots were perfectly exposed and I have no real idea of how to edit a jpg image other then creating a duplicate copy to work on. One thing for sure I will not do this again. Help. Thank you. Carl

Carl, the latest implementation of Adobe Camera Raw will allow you to process your JPGs in much the same way, albeit most will agree it is still better to have the RAW file to start with.

In Elements, go to File>Open As> and change the format drop down list at the bottom to Camera Raw (it's near the top of the list).

Navigate to your JPG file and open it. Your familiar ACR interface should appear (that of course assumes you were using ACR to process your raw files and not one of those "other programs".)

Make your adjustments in ACR, and "Open Image" to pass the JPG with adjustments to Elements for final edits and saving tot he format of your choice.

Final note, if the above process doesn't allow you to open your JPGs then you probably need to update your version of ACR.

Hi Jeff. Thanks for your reply. Adobe Camera Raw is part of Photoshop isn't it? I only have PSE 5.0 to work with and it has the raw editor built in. I tried what you said and I cannot do anything with the jpg. Any other suggestions? Carl

Yes the ACR plug-in comes with both Photoshop and Elements. The latest version of ACR available free from Adobe and is compatible with PSE 5 and will allow the editing of the JPGs.

This the link to the ACR page at Adobe
