This is really a nice picture Tony.

Always wondered what I'd do with this image because it was way too sharp. This tutorial helped quite a bit. Did some masking and a bit of vignetting in addition to the basic method.

Thanks, Bill. I have been hanging around this forum too much I guess. All those car pictures start to affect you after a while.

This is really a nice picture Tony.

Joe: Thanks - I like it a lot better than the original - it was one of those pictures I was having trouble deciding what to do with it and this helped. Here's the original or close to the original

It looks much better Tony. The picture of Marley also turned out much better with this effect. Proper softening can definitely add something to right photo.

Such lovely images so far! I love the teddy bears, Lisa.
Toni, the little girl is so pretty. I think the effect really is great on your flowers.
Fish, I wouldn't have thought that the picture you chose would work--but it really look great!
Oh Bill, I do like that shot!
Marley is so cute! Really nice photo and effect!
Julie-lovely flowers

Wow, fantastic results with this soft look :)

Toni - a pretty picture of Chelsea blowing bubbles, and lovely effect on the flower. The shot with the path definitely makes you wonder .....

Tony - that is stunning, and it definitely has a story.

Clara - wow - to both the car shot and the horse!

Joe - fantastic, cute and funny too! Marley looks like he is growing fast.

Fish - wonderful on a B&W, which I must confess I hadn't thought of trying.

Julie - the wild flowers look beautiful, very soothing and dreamy.

Bill - great image and it looks even more other-worldly with the dreaminess, in fact it could even be in a dream.

Deborah - a lovely image, the diffuse glow works really well on this. And a cute line of ducks!

Martha - lovely shot of Sophie. The tree stump looks to have lots of interesting texture.

Mary Lou - that's pretty and the beach scene too, very romantic.

Kim - yep, you got it. A very dreamy scene.

Ellen - yours definitely has something romantic about it, I love this dreamy effect too. Fantastic!

Sepiana - very pretty lilies and a lovely view too.

George - welcome to Be Creative, what a lovely shot and it looks great with this effect.

Suzanne - I'm glad you got it to work, looks great!

Steven - great to have you join us, great shot and very nice with the softened look.

thanks everyone :)

Lisa: thanks again for the comments. As for the story well that's Lara out 13 year old Belgian Teuveren and she's both a herding dog and a dominant female. So always has to lead the pack and periodically checks that the pack is following. I just happened to have the camera pointing down the trail when she checked to see if we were all obediently following :)

Thank you Lisa.

This really was a good tutorial. At first I was having a mind block and then it hit me that the blend mode was affecting the layer beneath and that's why it worked so well. I also used the added step of duplicating the soft light layer and changing the blend mode to normal to control the softness.

Tony,

Lara is beautiful, that picture could be straight out of a movie or tv series, it's really like she is determined you follow her along the path, there's a mystery to be solved or someone to be found,

(fan of 'Belle and Sebastien' (http://www.televisionheaven.co.uk/belle.htm), including the theme tune, I used to love watching that in the school holidays :D - many years after it was first released of course, it was shown every year in the UK :D)

Thank you for your nice comment, Lisa. It's not only very difficult to host a challenge each week, but to also come up with the ideas and to take the time to comment on everyone's entry. Thank you for your dedication! I know I've certainly learned something new each week from participating!

Pete - great eagle!

MassBud - welcome to the Village and welcome to Be Creative, hope you will join us every week. Lovely watermelon shot and great to make them the focal point.

Elle - both of those are stunning, and for me the pier shot is fantastic, I love it.
You can add a mask and then paint on that to bring some of the image back into focus, try varying the opacity of the brush you are using to paint on the mask to get a subtle effect (rather than all or nothing).

See you tomorrow :)
