Hi all. I have about 700 pics that have a keyword tag that I don't want to use. What is an easy way to eliminate that tag from 700 pics? Also, when you eliminate a tag, is it actually deleted from the metadata for that pic? What if you write the data to the pics? Will the deleted tag then not exist in the pic's metadata?
Thanks.............. Rob

To eliminate a tag
Select all of the photos that have the tag you don't want. Each photo will have an icon for that tag at the bottom right of the thumbnail. Right-click on the icon, then you will see a drop-down menu that offers you the choice to remove a tag. Select the tag you want to remove. If you have selected 700 photos, you only need to do this once, and it is removed from all 700.
I don't know what happens if you then go ahead and write the metadata to the file, but its easy enough for you to try it and find out and let us know.

I tried doing what you described and it didn't work for me. I selected 4 files, right clicked the tag icon for one of the selected files, removed a tag, and than looked at all 4 files and the tag was only removed from the one I had done the action on. I even clicked 'refresh' to see if that was the problem.
In my case, I didn't want to use the keyword tag at all in any files. So I ended up deleting the keyword tag, which then automatically removed it from every file that it was contained in. I then wrote the tag info to the file metadata, opened one of the files in Photoshop CS3 and looked at the metadata, and the tag was gone. So Organizer had completely removed the tag from the file metadata once I rewrote the metadata to the files.
But I was lucky because I didn't want to use the tag any more so I could delete the whole tag. I would still like to know why the process you described to me does not work for me.

I tried the same experiment as Goldberg and had the same results. I had a tag grouping that consisted of 3 items. Even though I could apply a tag to the set of 3, I had to remove it item by item. Could not group-remove.

I guess I'll have to look into this when I get home, as right now I don't have PSE in front of me, and I'm pretty darn sure you can remove tags from all 700 files at once. Perhaps its not a right-click, its a choice from the menus at the top of PSE.

Select the photos you want to remove the tag from
Right-click in one of the photos (not on the tag icon), then select Remove Tag from Selected Items
