I have PSE6 and a Canon S9000 printer. What I am printing is close but not the same as what I see on my CRT while in PSE6.

I use Monaco OPTIX to calibrate my Monitor.

I use Canon Photo Paper Pro..and downloaded a profile from Canon
S9K PHOTO PAPER PRO.ICM

I let PSE6 manage color handling (thats an option in the print dialog) ...there is a reminder in that dialog to "disable color management in the printer preferences dialog". Not sure what that means.

So...should I let PSE6 manage color handling...and what is it managing exactly ?

Should I use a profile ?

I guess I do not understand the print process....What are the settings I should use to obtain optimum quality prints ?

Any input would be appreciated !

Basically if you let PSE6 manage color handling you need to select the paper/printer profile (which you downloaded), Elements then converts to that profile and send the data to the printer. So in the printer preferences you need to turn off color management (the printer manual should tell you how to do that). If you don't do that you get both PSE and the printer converting and that usually makes a mess. So you must either do one or the other.

Check this site for a more detailed explanation and how it works for some different printers.
