Hi All,
Having enormous problems with Sony F828 and SRF (Raw file from camera) and opening RAW dialogue in full editor - it defaults to non RAW interface - despite showing that SRF is the file.
I have downloaded Camera Raw 4.4.1 and inserted Camera Raw.8bi correctly into File Formats (having carefully removed previous Raw.8bi),(have done it three times now) that as Tony says includes F828 for PSE5 - all to no avail!
Has any one had this problem? Is there a work round to get the correct Camera RAW dialogue page as per Scott Kelby's book on PSE5, page 56 screen?
Please help -
Geoff

Geoff, did you try opening the .srf files before you installed the latest version of ACR plug-in? The native version of ACR that shipped with PSE5 (probably 3.5 or 3.7) should have handled those files without update, as the 828 was added to ACR at Version 2.1!
You would still want to get the latest version to work, as there's a significant difference in features between 3.x and 4.x. Just wondered whether some incompatibility was introduced with 4.x that hadn't surfaced yet; probably not too many 828 raw shooters left out there...

If you could post a .srf file on a share site like www.4shared.com (http://www.4shared.com) , we could determine whether it can be opened by one of us. Might help pinpoint the problem. Just a thought...

Hi Chuck,
Thanks for the replies. I have posted a (crappy) photo in SRF, (weather here is lousy, so I shot it out the back door, just to get a raw file on the camera and then on to PSE5 to prove the so-called 4.4.1) on the site 4Shared, that you suggested.
Perhaps the problem lies with the camera! or me!

Hi Chuck,
Tried something different - I alos have a Canon XT rebel - and it also failed to open in Raw. So I'm really stuck - my version of PSE5 is version build 2006094.r.77 - I bought it in Oz. Hopefully that does not mean it is no good!

Geoff, try this:
Start PSE 5.
Go to File>Open As.
Find your .srf or .crw file.
Choose Open As Camera Raw (not Photoshop Raw)
Click OK.
See if that brings up the Camera Raw window. If it's working properly, you should get a number of choices in the White Balance dropdown (as shot, auto, daylight, tungsten, cloudy, tungsten.) If you only get as shot, auto, and custom, ACR may be recognizing your photo as a JPEG.
Hope that works.

Hi Chuck,
Thanks for your persistence. Tried "open as" - and still got the same screen - The resultant image in PSE5 allows me under "Basic" to choose White Balance - (lot of choices) - but RHS shows Temp, Tint, Exposure, Recovery, Fill Light, Blacks, Brightness, Contrast, Clarity, Vibrance, Saturation.
What is does not show is the screen as per page 56 of Scott Kelby's book, i.e. Settings "Camera Raw Defaults", nor the "adjust" page showing: - White Balance, (Temp Tint), Exposure, Shadows, Brightness, Contrast, Saturation. Nor do I get the auto boxes.
Actually, having reviewed the highlighted sections above, versus the unhighlighted sections it may be that I have everything except for Shadows.
Perhaps the build I have is one that came after Scott Kelby's book! Perhaps I am an idiot! I just thought (I felt quite reasonably at the time) I would get the same screens as the book!http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/images/icons/icon11.gif
Regards,
Geoff
P.S,. I found that under a little down arrow out to the right of the "Basic" page that there was a section showing "camera raw defaults". I seems that I have most everything except the slider for shadows.
