I have not been using PSE since LR much but shooting birds now I have run into a problem I would appreciate help with if possible .

I have noiseware comm ver and LR .
Shoot raw send a jpeg to NW to get noise out save jpg.
I have PSE 3 with Grants Tools so I can have a mask just like PS .
Question how do I just make sure a bird is sharpened but not background and keep bg noise free ? Is this possible with mask ?

Can you please explain step by step .

Never mind tried to delete since I figured it out . It will save jpeg to 90 percent and is not too bad .

Don, I don't use Noiseware, but others that I do use frequently have a selective sharpening ability built in, e.g., they have their own masking -type function. I have seen some that have a "sharpening brush" that you can use to selective sharpen certain features/areas of the image while leaving other portions untouched.

Noiseware may have it somewhere built in and perhaps you haven't discovered it yet. Just a thought.

Is your Noiseware a plug-in (to PSE) or a stand alone version? That would have a lot to do with the workflow options you have available

The other option of course is to pre-process sharpen (the entire image) in LR or ACR (as a precursor to moving the raw file into PSE), then use your mask to selectively sharpen in PSE once you are ready to print (or output for web). Sharpen, save as a JPG, and go back to LR if you want to print.

As you probably know LR makes it very easy to move back and forth to PSE.

It is not uncommon to sharpen twice in this manner, once for RAW processing and once for output to printer, web, etc., each of which require a different degree of sharpening.

To use selective sharpening, Control+J to duplicate the layer or if have multiply layers stamp a composite by holding down control+shift+alt+e keys. Sharpen the new layer and apply Grant's mask to it. Fill the mask with black and paint white on the mask to paint in the sharpness. It helps to temporarily decrease the layer opacity for a paint guide.

Thanks for replying Jeff and James . Yea I used Control J sharpened and did opacity at 41 % and painted on bird using Grants Tools mask . For being free NW ain't too bad and saves only jpegs up to 90 percent but not bad.
