Be Creative Week #34
This week is again an ‘arty’ week, but this time an oil painted look, here’s the link
http://www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-effects/oil-painting/index.php (http://www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-effects/oil-painting/index.php)
The tut has instructions for making this into an action, which you need full Photoshop to do, so just ignore the first step and last one which are to do with that.
As always tweak the numbers if necessary.
This is a technique that when you are viewing the images, they are best viewed at full size.
Please try it out, have fun, and as always I look forward to seeing your images.
:D

Lisa, this tut is fabulous, I love it. I suspect we may get multiple submissions this week....I have done three already.:)
First one....maybe a bit high on the saturation

And my favourite. Taken today, and when I saw it I thought "Mmmm, a sketch or painting or something for this one I think." And lo and behold, tonight you post just that for the challenge!

Thanks for the tutorial Lisa.
I learned something new in this tutorial. I had never used the command to stack filters.
I had to change the numbers dramatically to achieve anything close to what the pictures looked like in the tutorial. I think it's because I was using a very large image and the person in the tutorial was using a very low resolution image.
Instead of using Overlay I used Soft Light. I think it looked a little better for this photo.

I am way to fast to whine. So sorry. Here's the result of calming down and being persistent: http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/17XGfkjfoxK2k2jg7JAaKy82MBkhPP1_thumb.jpg (http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=17XGfkjfoxK2k2jg7JAaKy82MBkhPP1) Photo: Yosemite National Park Shar

Here's another one. What I discovered is that 4" or shorter on the longest side works. I wasn't thrilled with the way the water looked when I did it according to the directions, so I tweaked it (can't remember how) a little, and I think it turned out looking more like water color than oil. But I'm really FAST at doing it now! I don't know if you can even tell what it is, so I will tell you: It is a footbridge over a creek in Sun River, Oregon. ---Shar http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/1QKGSCHQf1yaRv9hS8Sf0cen6DbO2a_thumb.jpg (http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1QKGSCHQf1yaRv9hS8Sf0cen6DbO2a)

I've tried this out on two photos. The garden (http://www.elementsvillage.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=5699&c=5) seems a better rendition. The Red Church (http://www.elementsvillage.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=5696&catid=member&imageuser=1069) in Sonora, CA, had some deep shadows.

I started where I left off last week - so the end result is now the product of three creative weeks. Wonder what will happen to it next week - it's getting less and less like the original photo :D. Second one is another resurrected image from an earlier creative week.

Oil painting is addicting! Here are two of my favorites. I followed the tutorial, only I started with images that had the English tea-can effect applied first.

I did this one last night-well, in the wee hours of this morning. I thought I posted it soon after doing it but apparently not-a senior moment perhaps. Anyway, here is my second attempt which shows the filter effects much better. I lowered the resolution and size more than I did on the first one.

This was a lot of fun.
Like potato chips... Can't have just one...
I like the church, a modern church now in a neighborhood on the way down.
I have tried at various times to take pictures of the church. Too many cars, houses
and street lamps. Had to get up early for this one.

And I also tried it out on my favourite photo of my eldest granddaughter. It looks better if you click on the thumbnail. For this one I duplicated the filtered layer twice, set the second one to screen and lowered the opacity:

Just couldn't resist doing one more. This leopard was behind glass, and I managed to get the image with very little reflection. I think changing it into an oil painting has improved it though:

And positively the last one, I used this same image when we did the English Tea Can effect. I love it as an oil painting:
