Rose Stained Glass

1) Work on a duplicate image

2) With selection brush set at 15px and set to add to selection, draw around edges.

3) When done add a new layer and with it active go to edit>fill selection> use color 282628. Deselect. Name this layer leading.

4) With the rectangular marquee tool draw out a rectangle close to the edge of the leading layer and go to select>inverse selection. Fill selection with same color.

5) Add a simple emboss layer style to the leading layer.

6) Add a blank layer between the leading and background layers.

7) Apply Wendy’s glass tutorial from the subscriber section of PET.

8) Change the blend mode of the glass layer to soft light.

You're welcome. Just building on the tut of Wendy's I refer to. Might be interesting to try adding a gold style to the leading layer for a gilded look. I'm eager to see what others come up with.

Linda, I finally had a chance to sit down with your tutorial on stained glass. Although I like yours way better (like the tighter rose bud better as well as the work you did), I am tickled with the results I had too. -----I don't think I would attempt this without the Wacom tablet/pen. Drawing all those lines was difficult even with the pen. I also found that I needed to apply vivid light rather than soft light to make mine look its best. But hey, a month ago I wouldn't have felt the freedom to experiment with different settings, so I feel like this group has helped me progress in that area as well. Now you've gone and done it, Ollie...got me hooked on another technique. This is especially fun for me, as I have several friends who are really into stained glass. Anyway, here are two renditions of a different rose...difference being in the blend mode. Thank you for posting this tutorial, Linda. I finally did one that looked okay-it's not so easy to draw the lines, even with the Bamboo! I also had to use a Blend Mode other than Soft Light.
