I'm about to upgrade to a new computer and I have the choice of XP Professional or Vista Business. I'm currently using Photoshop CS3.

I've heard some horrid things about Vista, but also some good things. I'd really appreciate it if you would care to offer your thoughts/opinions/experiences about these two operating systems.

Thanks heaps. :)

Robyn, FWIW, I am still operating with XP Pro. I have had numerous encounters with those that made the transition to Vista, and I have heard and seen many things that just make me glad I have a stable platform in XP Pro. Support for XP will continue through 2014 as was just recently announced. The next Windows O/S upgrade is due sometime in 2010. I plan to wait at least until 2010 before upgrading, maybe by that time Vista will become a more appealing platform to my needs, which includes stability and reliability. It really is a matter of choice, you have a proven track record with XP platform, and Vista is still developing and becoming more stable as time goes on. Personally, if I felt I would gain marked benefits over XP as an operating system to run CS3, PSE6, LR and others, as well as the printers, scanners and other hardware, I probably would have done the upgrade a while back, so here I am with a good reliable friend that has served well, XP.

I've had Vista since last fall and CS3 since the first of the year. I've had no problems with them getting along, nor have I had any real Vista problems. Vista does seem to drop my broadband connection every once in a while for no apparent reason, but other than that, fewer problems and conflicts than I had with XP.

Depending on where you get information about a product you'll arrive at a different opinion about it. If you visit support forums for any product it's easy to come away with a negative impression about any product. People who are having a bad experience or a problem with a product go there for help. And, for every person who is having a specific problem there are countless others who aren't.

Anyway, I do like XP Pro too, but I went with Vista and have been happy.

Hi Robyn;

Before you go for Vista I suggest that you check and make sure that
all of your extra stuff is supported with drivers.... Not all printers, scanners, and older software are supported.....

Good to hear from you........ Tom :D

I'm still on XP Pro and have no plans to upgrade to Vista any time soon. If you are upgrading to a new computer, hopefully it will have everything installed properly (drivers, etc) for the PC to function correctly. If you have any older peripherals (printers, scanners, etc.) you will want to make sure you can get Vista drivers for them. But, some older equipment is not supported under Vista and never will be, so if you have some of that type equipment, you will be out of luck there. I have an old scanner that I doubt would be supported so I would have to replace that. But that is not why I haven't upgraded yet. XP Pro is running just fine for me.

I've had Vista for quite a while and uo to now have had no problems with it.
It seems very stable to me, still each to his/her own.
Kev.

Hi everyone,

Thank you all for your opinions and suggestions.
It's a good point that you raise about support for printers, scanners etc. I hadn't thought of that. I have quite a few bits and pieces..........printers, scanner, Wacom tablet, etc. I'm thinking that XP will be my choice.......just for the ease of the change over really.
