Hello Element Villagers,
Newbie here. I’ve only been shooting with my dslr for a year now and have learned that there are other things that can be done with photos after they’re captured from the camera. I am happy to have come across this site looking for help with Photoshop elements 6 from a podcast. Basically I’m here to meet new people, learn to improve my knowledge of photo editing, the other side of photography. And get an understanding of the other tools that are available that some use, and why. Care 2 share what's in your brain?:D

Greetings Elements Villagers,

I hope someone can shed some light on a question I have with digital imagery software.
Adobe:
Photoshop CS3
Lightroom
Apple:
Aperture 2
There are so many software titles out there to edit or enhance our photography. So which to chose from for better photography? I do understand some decisions are made because of the cost. For example, I went with PSE6 over PS CS3 to edit photos because I couldn’t afford the $600+ at that moment yet surprised to see so many on this forum that use it. I was also looking at both products Adobe Lightroom, and Apple Aperture 2 to process photos after shooting. Is there anyone out there with any experience with these that could give me some insight?

Best advice is that most have trial versions. Download and see if worth the cost for what you want to do. For instance I trialed lightroom, and while liked the acr in that couldn't justify the cost because iphoto(free on my mac)+PSE6 offered a lot of the same features in the creative/storage area. It's amazing what elements can do if you are only willing to go to a few more steps.

The cost big time. I have Elements 5 and the $89 bucks was a big change from the over $600 here in NY.

I see that your in Iraq, maybe you can get yourself a deal from the PX? I remember some of my friends way back when they were serving, that they used to get some great stuff at very reasonable prices that the rest of us couldn't dream of touching.

Welcome to the Village and you'll find that there are very knowledgeable and friendly people here who are willing to share in there experience.

Hi Interject ..

Quite a few of us here do use CS3 .. in my case I stated out on this forum back in 2004 with PSE2 then moved on to PSE3, PSE4 etc and finally bought CS3.

... because the forum is just such a great place I decided to stay here even though nowadays I only use PSE to answer questions and do tutorials :)

Elements is excellent, a lot cheaper than CS3 and for most people it does way enough. Once you have PSE then Adobe do tend to occasionally send out email special offers on the full version of Photoshop to registered users of PSE ... last time the offer price was $199.

Hi Interject, welcome aboard. I use PSE5 at home, but have CS3 at work. Not that my job actually requires me to have this program....I think my manager was being extremely kind to me. (I only do a few office functions for our internal bulletin board) I am getting used to CS3 now, but still love Elements for easy layouts and stuff like that. But who knows, once I master CS3 I might end up preferring it.

When I joined this forum a very smart forum member told me not to lose sight of the fact that this is supposed to be fun. So I wish you lots of FUN.:)

Thanks for welcoming me to the Village. Stuff here at the PX, I can't complain too much other than it's pretty expensive. The PX say it's to offset the cost to get it there. And then the things that I would like to use I will have to order and have shipped to someone in the states to mail it to me since most places you order online from will not mail to APO. Now overseas elsewhere your right, they sure can.

But other than that I look to learn a lot from all the Villagers here.
