I have seen some of this guys results and they are very good ...

I am having a problem with the layer Mask bit and filling the Mask with black..
I have Grabts Tools but i must be doing something fundamentally wrong...

Would anyone else like to try this and let me know if they can do it in Elements...

Rooeey,
when you apply a mask it is automatically filled with white.
Make sure that you click inside the mask to select it, then click X to make black your foeground colour, then Alt - Backspace will fill your mask with black.

Kev.

Hi Rooeey,

I tried it and it worked fine with elements. I've had problems in the past with masks but it all fell into place this time.

I was pleased with the results when I used the model on the web site. Less so when I used an image of my own. However, I have to say that I should have spent more time on the first phase ( getting rid of blemishes etc.) I didn't, so the skin came out kind of blotchy. I did find to my surprise, I was able to to a bit of doctoring afterwards to improve the skin tone. Having said that, I think the lesson to be learned is take time to do a proper job at the beginning. :D

Hi dzzygirl,
Try to go through the steps in the tutorial one step at a time and you will be able to get it. I tried the instructions and it worked out well.

1. It looks to me like the instructions call for using the healing brush on the background layer.

2. At that point it says to duplicate the layer (ctrl j) will accomplish this.

3. Then dust and scratches with their suggested settings.

4. Gaussian blur with their settings.

5. Add noise

At this point you should still be on the top layer. Make sure it is highlighted and while on that layer, add your mask. Make sure you foreground and background colors are set to default (black as the foreground and white as the backgroud). Make sure your layer mask is highlighted and press alt backspace. That should fill your mask with black. Then with your color picker change your foreground color to white. Follow the suggestions for size and opacity and paint on the black layer with your white brush on the skin portions. Don't be afraid, if you make a mistake, change your brush to black and go over it. Don't hesitate to ask questions, this is a learning curve and we have all been there. Just enjoy the process, it is well worth it.
