Hi guys

When I group two layers together, the top one vanishes. I don't lose it, it just acts as though I have clicked on the eyeball and disapears out of my picture.

What have I messed up now? :D

Gary ...

That sounds odd ... could you take a screen shot of your layers palette and post it in Pixentral. That may make it easier to solve :)

Did a CTrl-J on the pink box, then Alt-click to group (also tried the menus)
If I ungroup I get both boxes..maybe something with the tranparent background? I'm sure this has worked ok before. I have already tried resetting the prefs..but may do it again.

I just played a bit more with the posted pic

If I group all three (add the white background) the other box shows up.

I am working on a challenge pic, now I have to figure out how to make that work

Hi Gary ...

That is how it works ... with a clipping group you are saying that you only want the top image to show inside the image you have linked it too.

Which in this case is the small square on the lower layer ... seeing that it doesn't overlap at all then none of it shows.

Try filling the whole of top layer with a pattern and you will see the effect then ... or fill the small square on the top layer with a different colour then use the move tool to move it half over the lower one ..

Hope that makes sense :)

Thanks .... it makes sense (and I sort of knew that)..now I have to figure out how the heck I was doing it before..I must have had a background that I grouped it with

It was for Grants challenge.. I was trying to keep the tadpoles on different layers but colourize some of them different colours.

I ended up just merging the ones for each colour. I thought I could group all the ones I wanted a particular colour, and just apply the hue/sat to those. I wanted to be able to move them all seperatly if I wanted to.

Oh well

Hi Gary ...

No it wouldn't work for that ... I've just been trying to find a workaround but I can't think of one :(

Gary ...

You can actually do it in Photoshop but it means creating a group (thats just like a folder) then you can apply the adjustment only to things within the group ...

... but I just can't think of a way to do it in Elements .. sorry :(
