Came across this huge nest on top of a telephone pole near the house. I couldn't get any closer to get a good shot. Anyone know what kind of hawk this is? I think it's a hawk...maybe an osprey. The images I've checked on the web don't exactly look like this.

Hi Norma, nice shot!
Those are definitely Osprey. Lots of fun to watch when the babies start learning to fly!

Norma, I just thought of something. It can be hazardous when osprey build nests on power poles so if this one is near your house you should keep an eye on it. At the refinery where I worked I saw two brush fires start, one when an osprey was electrocuted and fell to the ground and the other when the bird placed a stick where it contacted something "hot", caught fire and fell to the ground.

great shot of a magnificent bird.
Ospreys in the UK are slowly increasing in number. They are protected with very strict laws.

Janet, that's awful! They are about 10 minutes from my house but I go by there occasionally. Too bad I didn't get to see any of the babies!
