Everyone's talking about it, no one's doing anything about it, so we might as well take pictures of it. The theme this week is petroleum.

The fine print:
Everyone is invited to participate.
Because the purpose of the weekly theme is to get us more familiar with our cameras and to sharpen our photographic skills, entries should be taken during the week of the theme.
Photoshopping is allowed.
To make this thread more manageable to view, please post only your entries in this thread. Post your comments in the accompanying 'comment' thread (http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37939).

.... and you think you got it tough
prices at the pumps this morning, NB those are prices per litre (not gallon) in £! Unleaded is £1.19 (well it's point 9) and diesel £1.29 - so as good as £1.30.

With all you guys complaining about the price of oil we're here celebrating 150 years since the first commercial oil well in North America was dug in this area. So I thought I'd go out and grab a few shots of some of the old oil wells that are still operating around here. Canada just issued a stamp to celebrate so I threw that in as well (didn't take it - it's off the Canada Post website).
Many of these old wells are over 100 years old and you're lucky if they produce a barrel a day, so it hasn't always paid to operate them, but at today's prices the local producers are having the best year they've had in a long time.

Let's be thankful cars run with the kind of petroleum we have...
This cost $1.29 for 1.75 ounces...

The worst kind of engine, the loud, high carbon 2 cycle. I hate weed eaters. No matter what brand I buy, or how much I spend, they always fall apart. If it's not the engine it's the shaft or spool. They make me so mad!

I don't know why there was half of a six-pack of Corona next to the pump (honest, officer!), but it was there and I liked the color and the way it looks like we're laying alms at the altar of the great oil gods.

With last night's tornado, the Missouri River was really out of it's banks here in Nebraska.

The conversation in the comments thread reminded me of this other chain (http://www.stinker.com/) - here's a souvenir I brought back from a trip through Idaho... their road-side signs were a childhood staple on family trips.

This is where it gets scarey, folks. This is just the tip of a huge iceberg of things that we use daily that are made from petroleum.

Maybe we should just get the wayback machine. Here's a window, my week for reflections I guess, I like these.

Hmmm... why did I think that there was an image of a beautiful, pristine can of 3-in-1 oil previously posted? Was it removed? Am I crazy? Don't answer that...
At any rate, I thought there was an image of a beautiful, pristine cane of 3-in-1 oil previously posted - and decided to post a shot of my previously beautiful, pristine can of 3-in 1 oil. :p ...for contrast.

I think if we keep using petroleum at the rate we are. We'll end where we were a 100 years ago.

This is a real, old, gas pump, but it was at one of those restaurants that makes cutesy displays. Since I have gone bananas over HDR this week, I could not resist trying it on this image.
