Even though this took me all evening to do I'm finally happy with it. I even combined a couple of things!! I like the overlay a lot.

Hi Mary Lou,
I really like this. Well done! I love the way the door looks (I'm crazy about wood textures.)
What did you combine to get this effect? I seem to recognize only one tutorial. It looks like it took a fair amount of work.

Mary Lou, that looks really nice. Sort of a color sketch effect.

Sepiana, here is what I did. I always mean to write down what I am doing but then I add this and delete this and on and on and so it doesn't get written down. Since I still am having problems with the stained glass, I recreated this. I started out using the tut in our new Elements Magazine, From Photo to Coloring Book (on pg. 7). I strayed at Step 5 and did my own thing. Please let me know if you have any questions. You can PM me if you want.
Have fun. Hope it works!!
Open photo and make 1 copy>turn off background.
Choose Enhance>Convert to BW>Select Newspaper. Adjust sliders to liking>OK. (I adjusted contrast up)
Choose Enhance>Unsharp Mask. Enter 100% in the amount field, 2 for radius and 0 for threshold. (For more contrast run Unsharp Mask once or twice more Ctl F)
Choose Filter menu>Stylize>Find Edges. (Should look like sketch now)
I did my own thing starting at Step 5.
Create New Layer and use brush to change background. (My background was white with a lot of black flecks. The brush took away most of the black flecks.)
Merge layer down (should be on top of photo copy)>Overlay.
Adjustment layer>make necessary adjustments.
Choose Brush>clean up background more if desired.
I cropped my picture>made a new layer>used Wendy’s Deckle Edge Brush>added my picture>made a new layer>added color and used that for bottom layer.

Hi Mary Lou,
Thanks for the prompt reply. I copied/pasted the instructions and can't wait to try them out. Something new! By the way, are you referring to the latest issue of the Newsletter? I haven't received it yet. I wonder when I'm going to get it .

I'm trying to make a photo look like a coloring book picture, one that someone could fill in...does anyone know how to do that?
