View Full Version : Village Addiction-Have yourself tested

Hi everyone,

I've been a villager for less than 2 months and I do believe I'm already suffering from this addiction (not a bad thing, though). Take the test below. If you answer YES to even ONE question, you got it.

- You upgrade your high speed internet service, for no other reason than to get into the Village faster.

- When you turn on your pc, instead of checking your e-mails, the first thing thing you do is to check the new posts.

- You're constantly interrupting your other pc-related activities--wordprocessing, Net surfing, game-playing--just to see what is going on in the Village.

- In your everyday conversation, you find yourself dropping names--Wendy, Kev, Inspeqtor, Martha, Christell, Toni, Tony, etc., etc.--much to the bewilderment of your listener, who doesn't recognize the names.

- Your daily conversation is interjected with references to what you read in the posts.

- Before making a photography-related purchase, instead of checking a famous consumer-oriented magazine, you seek the villagers' advice. Ex.: my husband wants to buy me a scanner. I found myself saying: "Let me check the forum first." Before, I'd have said: "Let me check ...... magazine".

If you've a symptom not mentioned here, please add it to the list.

Is this a test? I think we are all in agreement with all of the above and more.

Hi Joe,
You almost caught me here! Finally I understood the meaning of your question.

Hi Christell,
Definitely. Do you want more? I noticed that my bookmark for the Village grew from one line to sets of subfolders.

Hi Mary Lou,
I'm sure there is a lot of "pretending" on the part of some of my listeners as well. You know, it's that look of: "Oh! No! Here we go again."

Hi Val,

I love your sense of humor. This image, in my opinion, is the IOW.

Also, I liked the addition to your signature. Being one and proud of it!

Hey, what about a tutorial to design badges for the members proclaiming our harmless addiction?

Or better yet...a challenge! :D

Hi Val,
Had never thought of that. You' re right.

Even better! Although I'd still need a tutorial. I got stumped at my last attempt at creating pin-on buttons/badges and gave up.

I just read this thread for the first time, and I thought... WOAH! I got mentioned! Did someone put me on a pedastal? I sure hope not!! I don't belong that high up

Val, you need to do a bit more editing.

Surely the author of "It Takes a Village to Master Photoshop Elements" should be listed as Enlightened Elder Wendy.

Hmmm....a few village avatars should be added to the background graphics.

Hi Charles,
I disagree. I think you do. You've become a household name around here. When I drop your name, my husband already knows whom I talking about.

Hi Karin,
That's a great idea. Remember, some time ago, someone asked if Wendy had written a book. We already got the title. All she has to do is write the book.

Good point! I thought about a "joint" authorship with several authors, but then talked myself out of it...what if I left someone out?

But, feel free to snag it from pixentral and go nuts! After all...

it takes a village!

:D:D

Here's another question. Is your day incomplete if you haven't checked into the Village?

Hi Linda,

Answer: Oh Yes! Definitely!

Absolutely. Although work has really gotten in the way in the last couple of months and I don't have time to post often, I at least check the Village everyday. The addiction is so bad that, if I'm having lunch at my desk (so busy that this happens a lot), I check the Village while I'm chewing. That reminds me, I need to buy a can of spray air to clean my keyboard at school; the crumbs are becoming noticeable.:D

I object to being called an addict, I can take or leave the village at any time.
Well at least for 10 minutes!
My DW says other wives are golf widows but she's an Village widow!:D

Kev, that's very funny. Tell her to join in. Maybe not...then you would have to share the computer!!

Hi Kev and Mary Lou,

Village Widows! That's funny. Do you think my husband is already considering himself a Village widower?

Guess what happened today? I fixed myself a cup of coffee, put a pot of oatmeal on the stove, went into the Village -- the oatmeal turned into a beautiful black glued-on crust. It made a very nice texture, though. Maybe I could use it in one of my projects.

Hi Jerrilyn,

I had to open the windows in my kitchen and do a lot of pot scrubbing. See my reply to Kev and Mary Lou.

OK...it's time to come clean. Our office has been turned into our grandaughter's bedroom. Since our computer is in there and she is at our house a lot, I have resorted to "sneaking" back into her room after she has fallen asleep so I can "feed" my addiction. I think I need Village therapy!!

Oh, this is all just too funny:D. And how us addicted ones can relate!!!

I have opened up in the mornings with my night wear, and found it was lunch time and I was still in my pj's.

I have also spent the day working on images and reading the forum, and quickly zipped around the house just before dinner time, careful to start frying some onions so it smelt like dinner was being cooked, and nonchalantly stating "Oh yeah, just did a bit of this and a bit of that today".

I have also spent some days working with images and reading the forum where I know it was the very thing that saved my sanity!! But how can that be? I have village addiction insanity!!! Sounds like I'm doomed either way:eek:!

Hi Toni,

I relate to your PJ's "symptom". I'm guilty of the same.

As far as preparing the dinner, the same thing here. At the last minute, I'm running to the kitchen, trying to look busy.

We're two incorrigible addicts. So what? At least it's a harmless addiction.

Well I heard that putting an onion in the oven is proof positive that dinner is being cooked! I never thought about putting them in the frying pan. Good idea! Throw in a bit of hamburger and pasta in the boiler and dinner is ready in quick time.;)

Hi Es,

Isn't Toni's idea a great one? I can't wait to try that one.

Yeah.....oh that reminds me, I've got to put some onion in the crockpot so it will give off that lovely fragrance for the family tonight!
