What did I do wrong???. I,m trying to upgrade from PSE2 To PSE6. Everything is going good until I look at the Organizer and the Editior. It seem that the photos did not go into the correct folder as they were in the PSE2 verision. Also the photos in the editor do not match those in the organizer. I,m working with Vista 1 on a HP . Any help or suggestions would be appericated. Thanks Wolf:(

I think we need more details. PSE2 did not have an Organizer, you could purchase Photoshop Album 2 which was the Organizer as a separate program. There were also the free version of Organizer: Photoshop Album Starter Editions. I think they came in versions 1, 2, & 3.

What program exactly are you using? Was it also on the Vista machine or are you upgrading machines at the same time?

Organizer does not move files unless you tell it to with File>Move, or drag n drop in the folder view.

Did you do a backup and restore from within Organizer from one computer to another? Restore should ask if you want to maintain the same folder heirarchy.

It seems to me that Vista has some differences in where it store pictures from xp. I have no personal experiences with Vista. I seem to recall some threads over at http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.eeb4f8b/ that discussed upgrading to 6 and Vista.

Anyway, give us more details on the exact programs you are using, what you did, what you wanted to do, what were the correct folders you wanted the images to be in and what were the folders that they ended up in.

I had an old computer with Windows 98.2 operating system. It was on a HP Pavilion. I had Photoshop Elements 2 on it. Along with about 600 photos. in about 30 folders. Two months ago I purchased a new computer (HP) with 3gb of storage, with the vista operating system on it. I have the Home Premium verision After I purchased the system I loaded all my photos onto the new Vista system. I looked at the photos in the Window Photo gallery and noticed that the photos where grouped by date and not by the tags that I had them in on the PSE2 Verision. I then purchased a copy of the Photoshop Elements 6. I loaded the PSE6 programs onto my new system and everything was going good UNTIL I looked into the Editior and the Organizer it was then that I discovered that my photos were no longer in the same file folder that they were in on Photoshop Elements Verision 2. My question is what do I do to fix my problem or do I have to retag all my photos.

Okay. You moved from a Windows 98 machine. Neither PSAlbum nor PSAlbum Starter Edition were supported on a 98. When I had 98 I used Picassa (free from Google) for Organizing.

PS Elements 2 had file browser. You could browse folders and view thumbnails. If you opened an image you could add a keyword in File Info.

I am not at all sure what tags you are talking about. I don't know of any program that uses Adobe type tags on Windows 98. If you were adding keywords they are now part of the image file and should still be there.

Windows Vista I have not used. I do know that Vista has something called tags and that it has a view that shows all your images in date order.

How did you move your photos to the Vista machine? Elements does not move files unless specifically asked via File>Move or drag n drop in folder view. If your images are not where you put them, maybe vista hijacked them to a different location?

Or it may be that you have just not looked at them in folder view yet. PSE6 does not have the familiar file browser of PSE2. It has Organizer. Organizer can show your thumbnails in different orders: date view, import batch view and folder view. See if you can figure out how to switch between views. (It's a drop down on the lower left on PSA2 but I don't know where it is on 6)

Anyway, tell us how you loaded your photos onto the new computer and what you mean by tags.

I suggest you check out www.photfanatic.com to learn about Organizer tags, categories, collections(albums in 6), etc. Although written for v3 the concepts are the same.

Maybe someone with 6 and Vista will come along to help. My experience is with PSE2 & PSA2 and XP.
