When I open PE Org today, several key-word tag icons in the right side bar are missing. Like the default "people" and "places", The images with these tags are there, but how to select just those. I've had PE 3 yrs, byt just started to use PE Org, and am short on study time on all it's details.

Here's a thought -- maybe you accidentally dragged the missing tags and categories to another category, and now you don't see them. So, open all the remaining categories and subcategories so you can see all tags. Are the missing categories there?

Have you done a File>Catalog>Recover lately?

When Organizer gets funky that is the first thing you should try. It is a good idea to do it regularly.

Check out www.photofanatic.com for tips on best use of Organizer.

Thanks for the advice, folks; the main benefit has been to see where the catalogue(s) are kept on the HD. I presume from this that I can also back up the catalogue file elsewhere, like my USB storage?
In meantime, tags have been found! There is this wee menu item at the bottom right corner of PE Org titled "keyword tags" - just click there and they reappear exactly where I left them a week ago.

Yes, you could move your catalog to an external hard drive, but unless you are creating a backup, why would you want to do that? The catalog usually works best when it is on the fastest drive you have.

Paige, I think he was talking about a backup copy rather than a move.

Denny, yes you can make a copy of your .psa catalog file on your USB storage.

An official backup will copy all the photos as well as the catalog files. But you can copy the photos and catalog files by hand and all will work well if you put them back in place with the same path names.

The thumbnail cache will regenerate if lost but I think you need to also back up the proxies if you have any offline images.
