View Full Version : Photoshop & Barbershop singing?

Some of you are probably aware that I sing in a Barbershop chorus - it's been a hobby/passion of mine for about 15 years. We are a small and fairly new group, just nearing our fifth year of competing. We take this very seriously, performing as often as we can, and competing twice a year.
We've launched an unusual fund-raising effort where each member was "challenged" to come up with a way of raising money by taking advantage of their individual talents. So, here's my idea...
Recently I took a whole series of photos of textures to use as overlays in Photoshop to create specials effects. There's images of cracked concrete, weathered metal, paint-spattered wood and many more - 125 photos to be exact.
I've put these images on a CD along with a pdf contact sheet that shows all the textures and a short tutorial on some of the ways you can use them.
You can use these textures in Photoshop Elements - I've included a movie for both Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop Elements 6.

This CD can be yours for the incredibly low price of $20 (plus $1.25 shipping). Just go to the link below, pay by Paypal and you'll receive a disc in the mail.
Here's the only "catches" with this deal: you have to promise that you will only use these images for your own use, and not sell or distribute them in any way. Also, since I'm asking so little for them (some texture collections sell for $200), there's no "tech support" other than the tutorial on the disc. Oh, and you'll find that some of the images are not in the sharpest focus, but that was somewhat deliberate since the images were intended to be used as overlays the focus doesn't really matter that much.

For more information about my chorus, The Academy, look here (http://www.theacademychorus.com)
To support the chorus and get yourself a disc, here's the link (http://www.dcross.com/textures)

Thanks!!

Sounds great Dave. Good idea on the CD. I'm off to check it out. Maybe you should include a video of you performing too. We'd love to see it!;):D

Wow, those are some great textures! If you go to Dave's second link, you can download a .pdf of the textures so you can see how cool they are. Looks like a great selection.

Click on the first link and you can listen to the group perform two songs and also see some great photos of them performing. I believe that's Dave in the red nose and red-checkered tie in photos 15&16. :)

I've seen Dave and his chorus sing, and they were truly inspiring. It was quite a treat.

Thanks so much to all the people that have purchased a CD of textures and helped raise $600 for my barbershop chorus! We really, really, really appreciate your support.

And (somewhat) good news for non-U.S. people: it would have cost so much to ship a CD to other countries that it wasn't worth it, so I found this service that sells "instant" downloads. You still pay through Paypal and get an email with a link to download the files. The reason I said "somewhat" good news is the zipped file is over 350 MB, so it could take a while! (The zipped file contains the same stuff as the CD: images, 2 instructional movies and a PDF that shows all the textures)

The cost for this digital download is $25 (slightly higher than the disc + postage) paid to Florida Gulf Coast Chapter SPEBSQSA (through Paypal)
So if you're keen to get yourself the collection of 125 textures - and are willing to put up with a long download - use this link:

Thanks again!!!!
Dave

PS. If you can ignore the unfortunate voice over near the end, you can see my chorus in competition on youtube here:
