Last night I was trying to find a pattern to to fill a vinnette layer with and when I changed from the default pattern to artistic patterns with the More icon, I got a prompt screen about saving patterns that I didn't understand. I thought I hit cancel, but apparently I did something that lost a series of brick patterns that had been in the default pattern group. I'm not sure where they came from if not in the original default pattern group. Which it appears they weren't, because, they are now gone  .
I tried a system restore to a couple of days ago to see if I could get them back that way, but they are still gone. (I'm using PSE 3)
I haven't taken advantage of the patterns and brushes offered here, because I'm not sure how to add them. I guess now is my opportunity to learn  . That is if someone can help me find and restore what I have lost :) . I hope in this learning process I will also learn how not to delete tools that I like!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the help :!:

Virginia,
Have you tried to reset the Patterns..?
In Editor, go to Edit > Preset Manager. From the "Preset Type" menu choose "Patterns", then click on the "More" arrow (in the top right hand corner). From the menu select "Reset Patterns".
Let us know how you get on... if all else fails I can always email the file to you..

I tried looking through all the patterns that are still there, but didn't see the bricks. (And they look like a regular red brick wall, there were several patterns that had minor variations in the way the morter lines lined up). I'll try the preset manager as suggested.
I don't remember downloading anything, and if I did it would have been from here so I'm sure that you all would be familiar with the patterns. I am on a dial up connection, so I usually remember down load waits and the stress of not knowing what I'm doing. As far as I can remember, they had always been in the default catagory, but if they aren't in several of yours, I have absolutely no idea where they came from. I'm not quite to the age of "senior moments" but I'm wondering if it is hitting a few decades early :? .
It's funny, I used these patterns on a whole bunch of Sunday School portraits last spring and still have those pictures, so I know they really did exist  .
I'll try reset the patterns and see what happens.

Virginia ...
I think that I found it ...
Click on Learning Centre at the top of the page .. then click on Downloads, scroll down and there are the AFX patterns ... and one of them is brick :)

I found the location in the learning center, but I couldn't open the pattern to see if it is the same.
I don't think that is where I got it, because, as I mentioned, I'm not sure how to download them and get them into the right place.
These will probably be a good replacement, if you wouldn't mind coaching me on what to do :) . I'd be happy to post one of the photo's with the pattern, but I don't know how to do the posting. I'm feeling pretty computer inadequate at the moment  .
Could I have downloaded them with out knowing some time?
It seems to be a pretty intentional process.
Thanks for the help!

Virginia ...
You would have had to do a few things to download it so I'm sure you would have known ...
Right to download the patterns just click on the link and it will download to your desktop. Then double click on it to unzip the folder :)
Now you need to install the file into Elements (it will end in .pat) ...
It goes in the Adobe PSE3 folder ... in there you will find a folder marked Presets and inside that one you will find Patterns ... just pop it into there.
... and there you have it the patterns are now ready to use :)

Now posting on Pixentral
What you do is:
First resize your image using "save for web"
Set the longest side to 750 pixels
then adjust the quality slider until the image is around 150K.
and save it with a new name.

Well, I will learn lots of good skills from this mistake :D .
Thank you Wendy for tutoring!
Here is one of the photos with the brick pattern. I have blurred the faces, because I don't want to infringe on anyones privacy :) . I hope this works.

I will try down loading the patterns from the learning center later tonight, its time to feed the family dinner and then off to a meeting for me now.
I'm looking forward to trying to add a few new brushes too. I'm guessing it is the same process, just into the brush folder, is that correct?
Thanks again for your help and I hope you have a nice day!

Hi Virginia ...
Yes new brush sets are very similar ... only difference is that they go in the brushes folder :)
I will take a look at the brick wall later today :)
